During the month of August 2017 I set out to accumulate as many e-mail addresses as I could gather for Rotary e-clubs in the world. This idea was born during research for a new Conference Software Platform. I contacted RI for advice, but they could not provide any information. As part of our research I was planning to ask e-clubs what they are using for their communication platform.
I had contacted the Rotary Support Center in July 2017 inquiring about contact information for e-clubs worldwide. I received a spreadsheet with some information on 312 e-clubs. This list contained websites, but no e-mail addresses. The support center was not able (or allowed?) to provide an e-mail list for e-clubs and advised me to use the online E-club finder to collect the necessary information for the e-clubs. The support center stated that that website will include contact information.
On September 26, 2017, an e-mail was sent to 285 e-clubs. Subsequently the same e-mail was sent 3 more times if no response was received. The three questions were chosen after consultation with several fellow e-club Rotarians from our and other e-clubs.
Observations and findings:
RI E-Club Finder has lots of incomplete information
314 E-Clubs checked
89 E-Clubs with improperly functioning website or incomplete basic info
78 E-Clubs may not be active
286 E-mail addresses accumulated
Many E-Clubs do not have an e-mail address in an obvious location on their website
Many E-Clubs use an online form for contact purposes
Responses are tabulated in a spreadsheet as shown in Download files:
72 E-Clubs (25%) provided answers to the 3 questions
Most E-Clubs use a Conference Software Platform
Zoom is used by 47% of the E-Clubs that responded
Face to face (F2F) communication is a concern for nearly all responders
All E-clubs make efforts to meet F2F with club members and other Rotarians
The spreadsheet report is interesting to read. It is in Excel format on the left.
End of year notes
There will not be another Board meeting until the end of January, unless there is a necessity. Don't forget to mark in your AGM attendance and anything else that you do during that time. There are lots of activities for you to participate in leading up to Christmas.
There will not be a bulletin on December 24 or 31. Bulletins will resume on January 7. Please send in your Meet the Member notes so that we can start using those again.
Take a look at all the birthdays and anniversaries that we have in December.
Check our Facebook page for pictures of members who took part in the Salvation Army Kettle Drive.
