Welcome to August
As always, remember to mark off your make-ups when you read this bulletin. There are lots of links in this bulletin. If you follow all of them, you can probably mark off a make-up.
All the meeting dates that would be applicable for 2017-2018 have been put in (no holidays). When you do a make-up, assign it to a meeting. If you get to the end of May 2018, you’ve done your minimum 40 hours that you agreed to. Then keep going of course!
Notes from Board meeting on July 31
Video to raise funds
We discussed the idea of using a video to raise funds, with the assistance of Chris Cochrane for the distribution. New member Ludmylla Mar dos Reis has volunteered to do the video for us so what we need now is a theme. Can you please contact me, or email Ludmylla directly

Finances
David gave us a financial report. Bills for the website have been paid, and semi-annual dues for Rotary International. We are still waiting for invoices from the district and the next semi-annual dues payment for RI. Ten members have paid. You can check your own balance on the website, click on Admin, and in the items list that comes up look under My ClubRunner. The last line will say My Billing Account Balance.
Agenda for charter night
Items were discussed. A draft agenda is attached. If you feel anything should be added, contact me.
Causes for the club
Our club was organized so that we would not do projects, or fundraisers that required us to organize events or sell tickets. However, it would be a good idea to have some things that we would particularly support. We can have these on our website so that people who are looking for information about our club will know what we are about, and what we do. I can also mark these down in Rotary Club Central as service projects. We discussed the following because you can find these in almost every location:
1. Habitat for Humanity, which also includes Restore. Some links to these are
2. Adopt a Street, where you would look after picking up any unusual garbage, or advise city workers of a problem on the street. You would do this as individuals, but in the name of the D7040 Passport Rotary Club.
I could not find this in Kingston or Petawawa however.
3. Your Local Food Bank. In 2014-15, we found out that most clubs in the district support a food bank at one time or another. Every club has at least one project, but we could do this on our own on behalf of the D7040 Passport Rotary Club. You can find pictures on our district website
https://portal.clubrunner.ca/50214/Page/hunger-and-food-insecurity. Here are some websites that you can use for information.
One of the ideas that we discussed is a food drive, that we could all do in our individual locations, on the same day. There will be more news about this also.
August is Membership month
Our newest member is Bernie Laliberté, district chair of International Service. Bernie moved from Napanee to Brossard and found that he could not access his International Service Committee database because he had not found a club in the Montreal area yet. So, we helped him out and he is now one of our members.
A good article about how a Rotary club changed. It sounds a lot like our club.
