Join Leaders

Great to see four of our members last week at the International Service Committee meeting. Barbara and Ariane attended International Service. Yves, David and Barbara attended the Grants Management Seminar that followed. It was interesting to see that they were at separate tables until I introduced them, then they all joined at the same table. Getting everyone from our club together is difficult, but worth it.

In order for our club to become qualified for Foundation Grants, we need to have 4 people attend the training – President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and either Foundation Chair or International Service Director. I found out that I can take the first two roles for qualifying. Beth and Curry are not able to attend the Grants Management Seminar since they are still in Florida, so with the majority agreement of the Board, we have made Yves Director of International Service. I will attend the GMS on April 20 and if we can get a grant proposal written before April 30, we could be in the grants business next Rotary year.

Meet the Member

Corporate member Paul Hamon
I’ve been a financial planner for the past 22 years and have owned my firm for the past 10 years. My wife Josee is a registered nurse and is currently a manager at the Montford hospital. We are both committed to making our industries better and are bery passionate about what we do. We are a young and very active family as my children are not 9, 7, and 5. I volunteer as my son’s competitive hockey team’s coach and love helping the kids develop their skills. During the summer I volunteer as soccer coach for my three kids. In the past I was a member of the Club Richelieu. I want to be a Rotarian as I want to give more to the community other than sports.

Rotaract Anniversary

This week was Rotaract week. Rotaract is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Little Lending Libraries

from Barbara Fisk
So... at the last Board meeting there was a short discussion on the Little Free Libraries! Thank you Jacinthe Paille!! I've known about these for some time and in my former Guelph community they were popular. I think this would be an outstanding and simple community project that our members could take up! Each of us would handle it differently, and yet it would be the same - and it would spread across a variety of communities since we live so far apart! The literacy aspect is straightforward and surely, we can all manage to either house one ourselves, or find an appropriate location in our community! Are we on board? Let's hear some discussion! Here is a link you might like to read! https://littlefreelibrary.org.

Barbara is also wondering if anyone else in the club is thinking it would be a good idea to have logo'd club golf shirts? They'd be great PR at ALL our events, and for the RI Convention as well! Is there an interest??? Contact Barbara Fisk.

Take Action

from Jacinthe Paille
I was wondering if anyone in the club could make one of the little libraries (or more for any club member who wants one!) We could have the club logo on it. Barbara remarked that was a great idea! Perhaps we could involve someone locally who is handy. It might help build the PR side of it for the town, as well as for Rotary - maybe even a new member!! Maybe even the Interact students might like a project for shop class.

Attendance Matters

Several of our members who were active since July 1 have reached the May 28 date which signifies that they have done 40 activities that qualify for participation. Some of you who joined later in the year are getting to the point where you’ve done makeups to May 28, We cannot add in extra meetings for you, but you should keep banking them. It does show what everyone is doing. How long has it been since you’ve added makeups?

Calling all Youth Leadership All-Stars

May is Rotary's Youth Service Month! We are looking for Youth Leadership All-Stars to share their stories and be recognized on our Rotary Voices blog.

How have you become a more effective leader? Why is youth service so important in your community? What are you doing to make positive change in the world? Learn more and submit your story to RI by 23 April 2018 for your chance to be featured as a Youth Leadership All-Star. Do you know anyone who would qualify?

Learning Center

Check out all the courses that RI has available for you. Since we do not have face to face meetings, you can use these to learn more about Rotary on your own.
