Pay It Forward Day is a global initiative that exists to make a difference by creating a huge ripple of kindness felt across the world. Of course, our hope is that people pay kindness forward every day and make each day that little bit brighter. We believe that small acts, when multiplied by millions of people can literally change the world for the better — and on April 28th we’ll set out to prove it! For this year’s international Pay It Forward Day (PIFD) we are aiming to inspire over 10 million acts of kindness around the world. Imagine the difference that would make!  Join us in paying it forward and help spread the word about this important day!

Possible Ottawa Meeting

On April 26 I need to go to Gloucester High School to talk about next year’s Guatemala trip. If possible, I would like to meet with any Ottawa area club members. I will be at Perkins, next to the St. Laurent Shopping Centre after 1:00 pm. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting.

Documents

You need to be signed in to www.d7040passport.org. All documents that you can download, such as Events, ClubRunner information, Foundation information and so on can be found here. Events with other clubs is updated weekly as new events come up, and past events expire.

Foundation Walk Pledges

In our Documents section is a copy of a multiple donor form that is partly filled. Please let me know the amount that you wish to pledge. An updated form will be added to next week’s bulletin. I will fill this out so that it can go to the Rotary Foundation and you will be credited for it. Please send donations by e-transfer to me at ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com and the amounts for our club members will stay together.

If you prefer to donate to the Rotary Foundation directly, go to https://www.rotary.org/en/donate and make a note that this is for the D7040 Foundation Walk. Also, let me know so that I can add you to the total.

Exchange Ideas

I have hobbies that I would like to share with Rotarians from around the world. Is there a place I could go to learn more? I also enjoy meeting people and building friendships.

Come to the Rotary District Assembly and attend the session that highlights Rotary Friendship Exchange and Rotary Fellowships. See you are the NAV Centre in Cornwall on April 22nd. Book now on the District website. There is no charge.

A reminder, in our Documents section is a copy of the district budget. I believe it was mentioned at our last online meeting but please review it so that your representative can vote at District Training Assembly. If you have any questions, District Treasurer Edmond Lanthier, Finance Committee Chair Ariane Carriere and DGE Martha Weaver are happy to answer them.

Depending on how things go next weekend, there may not be a bulletin until Sunday. The weekend is going to be pretty packed.

Rotary’s new vision statement: why should you care?

In June, Rotary's Board of Directors and Trustees approved a new vision statement for the organization: "Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”

Stephanie Urchick, chair of Rotary's Strategic Planning Committee, explains what went into arriving at that statement, and how you can help us chart a course for Rotary to thrive in the years ahead.

Take Action

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to celebrate and thank Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers. Join Volunteer Canada and Investors Group April 15-21, 2018 to recognize the contributions of volunteers in our communities.

This year's theme is: “Celebrate the Value of Volunteering – building confidence, competence, connections and community”.

Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that “you get more than you give”. From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.

Name for Our Bulletin

Do you have any ideas for a name for our bulletin? May clubs have a special name for their bulletins such as the Lakeshorian, the Courier, the Lookout. When we start a new year on July 1, it would be great to have a bulletin name.
