World Polio Day
Donate to PolioPlus before the end of this month. World Polio Day was October 24. To make it easy to donate, look for the Event on the left.
Notes from October 25 G2M
Board members, are you staying on? When I was in Hartford for the Zone Institute, Zone Membership Coordinators strongly suggested that Board members stay in their current positions so that we could at least get in one year before making changes
Meeting night. There were four Board members unable to attend, so a survey has been sent to everyone to determine the best meeting night. Several people told me that they would be available almost any time, yet Tuesday night seems to have won. Accordingly, our AGM will be on Tuesday, December 5 (Sinterklaas for those of Dutch descent).
Financial report is attached in Download Documents.
Calendars. Len Goddard talked about selling 2018 calendars through our club members. There is a daily draw throughout 2018 for each person buying a calendar. Our club gets half of the sales. Tear-off slips and money are to be coordinated through Len, or through Treasurer David so that we send slips and money as a group.
Cornwall Sunrise Trivia Night is Friday, Nov. 17, see Download Documents for a registration form. A separate email has gone to Cornwall Passport members to see if we can form a team.
Learning materials https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference are available for anyone, especially for new Rotarians. You need to sign into My Rotary and then look for the Learning & Reference area. Each time you do a module, you earn an attendance credit. You can learn about Rotary, or learn by role, or by topic.
Mentorship. Anyone wanting some more guidance can be paired up with a Rotarian who has been involved longer. Contact Ariane. Also, check the article below about whether you are really a Rotarian.
Salvation Army. Len is coordinating efforts for the Kettle Drive in Ottawa for December 9. Ariane has contacted Oren Cole in Cornwall and will aim for the same day. Anyone can participate in a two-hour shift and count that as an activity. Check Downloads for the Kettle Campaign information.
Website advertising. We are asking you to reach out to advertisers. Our aim is to have enough advertisers to pay for the website hosting next July. There are documents in the Document Download section that explain how to go about it, and there is a view of the current advertisers and the number of clicks that they are getting.
Proxies. If you will not be able to attend the Annual General Meeting online, you need to send an email to Ariane with your proxy to allow her to vote for you at the AGM. We need at least 10 votes for any item to get our quorum. An email will go to everyone with the required format if you are not able to attend.
Are you a Rotarian?
The Rotarian magazine recently asked members around the world to share their reasons for joining, and for staying in, their club. Here are some of their responses:
I joined to make a difference in my community. I’ve stayed because I am.
Heather R. Klein, Rotary Club of Alleghany County, North Carolina, USA
Making friends, travel, and self-development attracted me to Rotaract. After a successful decade in Rotaract, I graduated to be a Rotarian. The bonding with Rotary family and the way projects are executed to benefit society at large helped me ascend to be a Rotarian.
Saket Gadkari, Rotary Club of Thane Hills, Maharashtra, India
We’ve mentioned before that for some it feels really strange, or disconnected somehow not to be tied to a meeting schedule. It’s also different to do things you want to do on a schedule of your own. You may do three things in one week, and then not do anything for a month or more. You do not need to worry about that, it’s the way our club is. Keep marking in your makeups and while you are there, take a look at what others are doing to inspire you.
