District Governor's Foundation Moment

What is The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of The Rotary Foundation. From digging clean water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment in a day, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that all contributions given to the Annual Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.

In the 2019-20 Rotary year, US$123.6 million was donated to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is comprised of donations from Rotarians, friends of Rotary, corporations, workplace giving vehicles and can be matched by corporate matching gifts to leverage your donation. There is even an online resource that allows you to see if your company has a charitable matching program…check it out at: www.rotary.org/matchinggifts.

Will you support the Annual Fund with a monthly gift this year?  Your support is so important to Rotary, making a difference in the world and have a lasting impact.

Did you make a donation to PolioPlus when you received your COVID vaccination? It's not too late.

President's Message

I experienced what I like to call the ‘small joy of a Rotarian at large’ - what happens when you are in a new place and you stumble upon a Rotary wheel. The reminder that Rotary is a global organization that connects so many different people through service and fellowship is always a welcome one. The symbol of the wheel evokes in me both a sense of nostalgia (remembering with fondness all of my Rotary-related memories) and a passionate excitement for what is happening and what is to come.

Secretary's Thoughts

Thank you for the many excellent ideas and thoughts for improving this bulletin. Please continue to email any ideas or thoughts.
Next week in this space, I'll detail a plan.

Meanwhile, traveling starts later this week visiting friends, relatives and fulfilling accepted invitations. First, we'll head to Western Canada then go into the US.

We'll stay with various friends who insist on hosting us in their homes rather than staying in a hotel.

Especially good as we've home hosted these friends many times over the years in Toronto,  the 1000 Islands, Canada, and Las Vegas, USA.

As we are are "fully" vaccinated, our travel is unrestricted with no quarantines required at this time.

President-Elect's Message

Making Time for Fellowship

To meet the needs of a club increasing in size and activity, we are separating the time required for the formal functions of the Board from the essential fellowship functions of the Club. That means, in addition to our regular meeting the 4th Tuesday of the month, the Board will also have a brief and more business-specific meeting each month. This is not necessarily a permanent change, but we want to give it enough time to see whether it suits our needs better.

PASSPORT CLUB MEETING – Fellowship Meeting
  • 4th Tuesday of every month, 4:00 pm EST – the feeling is that the most comfortable day is a continuation of our custom since inception. The time, for now, is also influenced by President Maddie’s current location in Israel. But we will want to discuss times, and possibly dates, since we have more and more international members joining us.
  • We can use this time for socials, learning, speakers, discussions of Club issues, committee presentations – there is lots of room to explore here.
  • Attendance by all Members is encouraged, and of course guests are more than welcome.

PASSPORT BOARD MEETING - Business Meeting
  • 2nd Tuesday of every month, 4:00 pm EST, plus ad hoc rarely
  • Attendance by Board Members, all members welcome
Have you a preference for dates or times? Have you got ideas for our Fellowship meetings? Anything else you want to say? Please get back to me so I can consolidate and bring information to the Board for decision.
