Using a video to raise funds
This suggestion from Chris Cochrane was discussed at the Massena Rotary Club and it is something that we may want to look at. Chris would show/teach one how use a video they create (or a video I create for them, pro bono if the video is for a Rotary club/District or another recognized non-profit). One must own the copyright for the system to work) to raise funds.
In a nutshell, every time a video created is viewed, money is donated to the copyright owner, not by the viewer but by the platform the video is seen on such as Youtube/Vimeo/ Google Video/etc.
It’s the painless fundraiser. Raise money without paying a cent! Simple watch a short video. Share it and ask others to watch. If done properly, a video can go viral on the internet (via FaceBook, Instagram and other platforms too) which raises the number of views (can be adapted to FB Live too).
I setup such in my eClub (
siliconvalleyrotary.org) to be paid for every original video we upload to our site such as our weekly program speaker or other videos done by members and uploaded to the site. In our case we use multiple platforms and we get about one US dollar total per view per video. This system funds our club's Foundation giving and helping other causes.
I do the same for The Rotary Rose Parade Committee. Videos on their site and others we create throughout the year pay a substantial portion of the cost of creating a new float every year. The Committee needs a minimum of $150,000 US to create any type of float and last year the system raised $100,000 of this cost for the Committee. The Committee is Rotarians from many Districts.
The system isn't perfect but it's one proven way to raise funds. My thought is to help local clubs in D7040 raise funds without being out of pocket.
We will discuss this at tomorrow's board meeting. Remember that anyone is invited. Click on the event on the left to get the link for the meeting.
