Grant Application Approved
Last year we applied for a
District Grant to assist with planning for the Youth Now farm. We have finally been given the go-ahead and will need to contribute $3500. Some of that will come from assistance from other clubs, and from some of the fundraising revenue that we get from other clubs. We are asking everyone to contribut $50 towards our goal as well.
If you pay half-year or quarterly dues, include that $50 with your e-transfer for January 1. Just send a note to Dave that you have done this.
The Russians are Coming!

The Russians are coming mid - April on a Friendship Exchange to District 7040. The reciprocal trip will take place in June. Your club members may not be interested in traveling BUT should not miss the opportunity of getting acquainted with visiting Rotarians and highlighting your part of the District.
The Rotary Friendship Exchange committee is looking for 4 Clubs, or groups of Clubs, in District 7040 to be hosts for 3 days each. During the 3-day visit, the clubs will provide home hosting, 3 meals a day, professional, cultural and tourist experiences so that our Russian guests will be able to experience the diversity of our District – lifestyle, language, culture, rural and urban.
Hosting opportunities give Rotary members the chance to experience the rewards of knowing others from around the world. Life time friendships maybe ignited.
As there may be some difficulties for visitors to obtain visas to USA, the visit may end up being limited to Canada. This doesn’t exclude American Rotarians from participating in activities during their stay. (We will keep you up-to-date on that front as we go along).
If your club or area has special events during the visit - April 18 -30 and would like our guests to participate, please let me know so that the arrangements can be made during our guests’ stay in your area.
Please discuss the opportunity of hosting with your membership. Meeting and getting to know people from another part of the world is a rewarding experience.

Invitation to an NID (National Immunization Day) - from Rotary in India

We Rotarians are determine in Keeping Polio Free India and ask you as part of one Rotary family to help during next National Immunization Day (NID) for polio at Agra, India on 3rd February 2019.
Our borders are not sealed and every day we are getting non-immigrants from neighbouring countries and are afraid to get Polio back in India, still fight against Polio in NOT OVER.
In this connections, Government of India has decided to conduct National Immunization Day on 3rd February covering all the children in the age group 0-5 years of age. The scale is extraordinary, with more than 172 million children immunized by 2.3 million vaccinators who visit every house in every city, town and village across the country – more than 209 million houses in all.
Let’s create history by joining hands with your club members participation during this event “International Project of Serving Humanity”.

The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: Paul Harris Fellows
Undoubtedly the most important step to promote voluntary giving to The Rotary Foundation occurred in 1957, when the idea of Paul Harris Fellow recognition was first proposed. Although the concept of making $1,000 gifts to the Foundation was slow in developing, by the early 1970s it began to gain popularity.
The distinctive Paul Harris Fellow medallion, lapel pin and attractive certificate have become highly respected symbols of a substantial financial commitment to The Rotary Foundation by Rotarians and friends around the world.
The companion to the Paul Harris Fellow is the Paul Harris Sustaining Member, which is the recognition presented to an individual who has given, or in whose honor a gift is made, a contribution of $100, with the stated intention of making additional contributions until $1,000 is reached. At that time the Paul Harris Sustaining Member becomes a Paul Harris Fellow.
By 1994, more than 450,000 Paul Harris Fellows and 160,000 Sustaining Members have been added to the rolls of The Rotary Foundation.

Rotary ABC's - Standard Rotary Club Constitution
Rotary clubs exist in more than 200 countries and geographical areas and cut across dozens of languages, political and social structures, customs, religions, and traditions. How is it then that all of the more than 32,000 Rotary clubs of the world operate in almost identical style? The primary answer is the Standard Rotary Club Constitution.
To receive a charter, a prospective Rotary club must accept the Standard Rotary Club Constitution, originally adopted in 1922. This document outlines administrative techniques for clubs to follow in holding weekly meetings, procedures for membership and classifications, conditions of attendance, payment of dues, and other policies relating to public issues and political positions. It is available for download at www.rotary.org.
When the Standard Rotary Club Constitution was accepted, it was agreed that all existing clubs could continue to follow their current constitution. Although most of those early clubs subsequently endorsed the standard constitution, a few pre- 1922 clubs still conduct their club affairs according to their former constitutional provisions.
Thanks again to all those Rotarians who manned the kettles on December 15. Len Goddard reports that the Ottawa area Rotarians raised $1,137.75. In Cornwall, three Rotary Clubs together raised $1168.00. Well done everyone.
