How did the Foundation get started?
The Rotary Foundation was founded in 1917 by Rotary International’s sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary “to do good in the world.” It has grown from an initial contribution in 1917 of $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri to more than $4.4 billion dollars in total contributions. The Rotary Foundation made its first grant of $500.00 to the International Society for Crippled Children in 1930, and to this day it continues to “do good in the world” in the name of Rotary.

One of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The Four-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy.
Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways.

We had a response to who reads this bulletin from less than 10 members including those who contribute to the bulletin. This tells us this vehicle needs change. Maybe shorter? Maybe fewer bulletins? Maybe no bulletin? Maybe replace with another method of communication? Stay tuned ...
President-Elect
Yesterday was the 4th of 5 meetings for this year’s President Elect Training Seminar (PETS), and most participants are now into the first month or their terms as president. This is the first time it’s been done on line – and I think the result is massively more useful. With time to review learnings in between sessions, as well as come back with informed questions, attendees are grasping and retaining more of the information on offer. Of course, on line reduces costs and doesn’t limit the number of folk who can join in. I hope that the training invitation is extended to a wider base next time. Much of this information would be useful to all Board members.
We’ve
covered tools and resources (turns out Passport Club is far more capable with ClubRunner than most – there’s a surprise – but that’s changing),
explored a problem-solving model,
become familiar with a management by objectives protocol by examining two areas many clubs are reviewing now (membership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion), and
discussed what goes into an effective Board.
The final session will be a Q and A session, where participants will also be able to send in questions in advance. These sessions have all been recorded and will be available to anybody who is interested. And, if you’ve and Qs you’d like me to find answers for, let me know. Our next and final session is 17 August.

Rotary is about service. Our theme this year is Serve to Change Lives. Have you ever thought about the ways that you can serve? This diagram explains the Avenues of Service and deserves another look at the beginning of our Rotary year.
We now have 4 members who have added in makeups, but I'm sure there are others that could increase our 14% attendance. You mark in your own makeups after you have signed in. This document will tell you how, just click on the link. It’s also on the website home page. What counts as a makeup? There’s a document for that too.
The dates that you use should be in this Rotary year 2021-2022. Since we are at the beginning of the Rotary year, do not bank your makeups but choose an actual date for a meeting. Do not bank anything until you get to June 30, 2022. Banked makeups really do not count for our attendance credit.
