Rotary ABC's - Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month
February is designated Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month on the Rotary calendar. The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary, held on 23 February 1905, now designated World Rotary Day.
The RI Board asks all Rotary clubs to observe this Month by planning programs for their weekly meetings and undertaking special activities to emphasize “understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace.
In February, many clubs arrange for international speakers, invite Youth Exchange students and international scholars from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs featuring former Group Study Exchange team members, arrange discussions on global issues, present entertainment with an international cultural or artistic theme, or plan other programs with an international emphasis.
Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international service activity or make contact with a Rotary club in another country. February is also a good time to initiate a Rotary Friendship Exchange or encourage support for Rotary Foundation programs.
Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month is a chance for every club to promote Rotary’s continued quest for goodwill, peace, and understanding among people of the world.
The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: WEEK 34
WHAT IS SHARE? Through SHARE, Rotary districts share in the decision-making process by choosing which Rotary Foundation programs they wish to support and participate in. The Annual Fund SHARE system is the mechanism by which Rotary Foundation program awards are distributed worldwide. Through the SHARE system, contributions to The Rotary Foundation are transformed into District Designated Funds (DDF)—the funds your district can allocate and to the World Funds-The funds the Trustees allocate. By giving to Annual Fund-SHARE we support both local and international efforts!
YOU CAN HELP OUR DISTRICT AND SUPPORT AMAZING PROJECTS BY GIVING TO THE ANNUAL FUND-SHARE DESIGNATION.
There is information about RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award). We have that as one of our goals for the year and if we want to participate we need to get on it soon. However, Jacinthe also asked members to donate $16.00 CAD to assist a Rotaractor in going to the Hamburg Convention. So far she has an agreement from 7 people and she needs 10. Contact her if you are willing to donate.
The Waterman newsletter from George Lewis is in Documents. George raffles paintings for water Global grants. An interesting fact is that we did one of those raffles at DisCon 2014. Murray Horn, then president of Iqaluit, was the winner.
George has a request: "I want my new ART/WATER Newsletter to be interesting. Please send me photos of my paintings hanging in your home or office. Tell a little story. If you have photos of Club or District raffles, I would like to see those. Thanks."
Did you see the Bon Voyage message on the left? There is new information for Project Fairs in Documents. They are an excellent opportunity for finding out about international Service.
There are several Rotaract events coming up. Read about them in Documents.
