Inter-club Dinner in Cornwall

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 12, for a supper club meeting in the Rotary Tea Room at the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge, Cornwall beginning at 5:30pm. All Rotarians are welcome. Please spread the news to your members, their spouses, friends and potential members that can’t make it to our usual meeting times.

Agenda to be finalized but we hope to have Gilbert Terrance as our guest speaker (Traditional storytelling – Stories about our area). Theme is orange to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21st)

Room capacity is 55 guests. We need to let Martin from Cornwall-Sunrise know our numbers by end of May, so by the end of this week.  $12.00/plate (Spaghetti (meat or no meat options), salad, bread, cake, tea/coffee).

Survey Results

Read carefully before Tuesday's meeting because we will have some decisions to make. The surveys were completed by 10 people, about one-third of the club. We may need to make some changes to our bylaws as a result. These items are not final until the club has voted on them on Tuesday evening.

Directors
It has been suggested that we add Area Directors to our Board who would act as a point of contact for each area. The three main areas that we draw members from are Ottawa, Cornwall and Montreal. Additions of Board members require a change in our bylaws, which may need to be updated because of the Council on Legislation anyway. Do you agree that we add Area Directors to our Board, and that we update the bylaws to reflect that decision? Yes 8, No 1

Comments to think about: There is a significant flexibility difference between permitting and requiring Area Directors. Should the Club grow or locations of members alter, the need for, or location of these Areas may change significantly. We need to be cautious with wording of any formal documentation.

Another comment: Now that our District Grant is reaching completion, do we still need a Director of International Service? The original appointment was made in an emergency at a grant management training session, but may no longer be required. We need to keep it to validate our qualification for the coming year, but we can then take a look to see who needs to qualify for 20-21.

Having Our Partners Become Rotarians
It has been suggested that we get our partners to join as Rotarians. If we leave our dues the same, that would be $500.00 per couple, per year. A suggestion has been made that we allow for RI and District dues and have only one partner pay for club incidentals. This would allow us to charge $450.00 per couple. Are you in favour? Yes 6, No 3.

Comments: Should we be treating each member as an individual? Conceptually this idea discourages singles. It suggests those without partners or those whose partners are not interested are somehow ‘less’ committed perhaps, or less valuable.

Committee Membership
Next year's goals requests that we appoint a committee of at least 5 members each for Membership and for The Rotary Foundation. Keep in mind that most meetings will be online. Which Committee do you want to join? Membership 5, The Rotary Foundation 3, Neither 2

Comments: Unfortunately I did not think about the fact that the surveys were anonymous. Would the people who want to be on the Membership Committee contact me, and those for the Foundation can contact Jacinthe.

June 7th – 9th We hope to have a larger team of volunteers on hand.  If you can come for some it the time it would be  appreciated.  We will be cleaning (raking the grounds, leaves);cleaning the beach.. debris from winter, cleaning all water craft, installing docks and still a bit more cleaning inside the main building.

Let me know if you can help on any of the days on June 7-9.  When I know the numbers and who we will work out the details, contact Len GoddardSeveral club members from the meeting on Tuesday, April 30 indicated they were interested.

Rotary ABC’s - Rotary FellowshipsJune is Fellowships Month

Rotary Fellowships began informally in 1928 when Rotarians with a shared interest in the language Esperanto joined together. In 1947, a group of Rotarian boating enthusiasts began flying the Rotary flag from their crafts, calling themselves the International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians; this fellowship now boasts the longest continuous existence. The scope of Rotary Fellowships has greatly changed over the years, but today their purpose is still to unite the Rotary family in friendship and provide venues for enjoying their favorite recreational or professional activities. They could be groups of Rotarians, their family members, Rotaractors, program participants, and alumni who globally unite around a common interest, vocation or recreational activity, with the primary purpose to network and further friendship. For general information on Rotary Fellowships program, visit www.rotary.org/fellowships.
