This bulletin will feature some questions that have come from the D7040 Passport members.
How do you find out when other clubs meet?
If you want to attend any club meetings in the district, go to the district website
www.rotary7040.com and scroll down. On the right-hand side, you will see District Events, and under that District Links. You can get a directory of club, or a map of all clubs, which also shows their location.
If you want to find any club in the world, go to
www.rotary.org and sign into My Rotary. At the top right, you will find a little icon
that says Club Finder beside it. You can put in city, country, and even what day that you would like to attend a meeting. Even if you do not sign into My Rotary, you will still see that icon on the Rotary site. The easiest thing to do is download the app to your phone and then you will always have it handy.
How could our club benefit from having a satellite club?
Some clubs create a satellite club to accommodate members' differing schedules. This allows some members of the club to meet at a different time and place than the rest of the club. The benefit is that the club doesn't lose members because of scheduling conflicts. Satellite club members are officially members of their sponsor club, but if membership grows enough, the satellite club can break off and charter as a new club, but rather satellite meetings. There is one planned for Kingston and soon one for Cornwall.
This question came about because of the various locations where Passport Club members live. We now have a satellite meeting scheduled in Ottawa for October 4. Register through Events in this bulletin. We are not looking at an official satellite club status though, just some regional satellite meetings. Besides, I have pins and name tags to give out.
Who decides where and when the satellite club meets?
The satellite club determines its meeting place and time in consultation with its sponsor club. It is quite possible for members from Ottawa, Kingston, or Cornwall to meet as a group.
Does the satellite club meet with the sponsor club?
The satellite club could have a separate meeting, although it may meet jointly with the sponsor club from time to time. We can do this online.
Allowing Rotary clubs to conduct multiple club meetings during the week, each taking place at a different location, on a different day, and/or at a different time, will have a positive impact on a
club’s ability to:
· Appeal to different professional segments within a community and its surrounding area
· Attract and retain a qualified and diverse professional base
· Improve the overall effectiveness and success of its operations
· Provide additional leadership opportunities for club members
AGM
This is now on the Event calendar for December 4, online. All members should attend. It’s not too soon to start thinking about becoming a member of the executive. An agenda could be:
1. Roll call
2. Quorum
3. Confirmation of Directors/officers
4. Appointment of auditors
5 Adjournment
If there are members who cannot be present, they should forward their proxy if at all possible to Ariane enabling her to vote in their stead. Members must be paid in order to vote.
