PolioPlus is a Signature Program of The Rotary Foundation
PolioPlus is Rotary's priority program which supports global efforts to eradicate polio. It was launched in 1985, with the help of Dr. Albert Sabin, developer of the oral polio vaccine, as a worldwide program to protect children from the harsh and fatal consequences of polio. In 1988, the World Health Assembly challenged the world to eradicate polio. Since that time, Rotary's efforts, along with partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and governments around the world have achieved a 99 percent reduction in the number of polio cases worldwide.
As of 2019-20, The Rotary Foundation has raised over US$1.8 billion for polio eradication. When the world is certified polio-free, our contributions will make Rotary the most significant non-governmental financial contributor to the global polio eradication effort.
You can help end polio by making a gift to the PolioPlus Fund at endpolio.org.
Did you make a donation to PolioPlus when you received your COVID vaccination? It's not too late.
Today we commemorate International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

This week from Past President Jacinthe:
Every year, Rotarians, their family, friends and the rest of the world celebrate new milestones in the eradication of polio on October 24, known as World Polio Day. It began in 1979, when Rotary started a multi-year project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. The Polio Plus program was launched in 1985, with an original budget of US$120 million. Since then, thanks in great part to the funds raised and efforts provided by Rotarians, poliomyelitis, the disease caused by the polio virus, has been eradicated from all but two countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan). A polio-free world is within reach!
Nothing recent to report on our Vision Exercise, but it has attracted attention at the District level and we've had an offer of support from outside the District. I will update you as soon as I have reliable information.

Meet Brian Patterson
Born in Sarnia, Ontario in 1947 I was raised as a farm boy, first in Sarnia and then in Innerkip (outside Woodstock). Attended The Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston and served in Valcartier Quebec, Nicosia Cyprus (as UN special forces peacekeepers], and back at RMC on staff. Left CAF in 1976 and did too many things to summarize here but joined the Napanee Rotary Club in 1989 (at invitation from Judge Peter J. Coulson). Served Napanee as President (twice) and in every position available at least once. Had a particular passion for Rotary Youth Exchange and hosted 14 inbound students as well as serving at District 7040 for 14 years as Secretary of Y/E. I went to El Salvador with a D7040 World Community Service Team led by Bruce Hicks from Gananoque) along with Ariane Carriere. Best experience ever as a Rotarian!
Moved to British Columbia in 2018 after retirement from owning 5 Marlin Travel locations, and a Financial Services Company to be closer to children and grandchildren and of course joined Rotary. Immediately I was appointed to a Director position and became Treasurer next year. I would like to ‘slow down’ a little and enjoy retirement while still remaining connected to Rotary.
Since we are now doing more club meetings, you need to report your attendance differently. This document How to report your attendance at a Club meetingtells you what to do. It's not a makeup so you actually need to go into the Meetings section. Our attendance right now is not where it should be. We are only at 22%.
I am repeating this again because Simmy has not had many people contact her about calendars. We agreed at the end of the last Rotary year to take part in the West Ottawa Rotary calendar fundraiser and ordered 150 calendars. We receive $10 for each one sold. This is the cover:
You can start selling any time. Simmy will have a supply in Ottawa and we hope to get some calendars in Cornwall in time for another fundraiser:
