An Excellent First Meeting!
I was very proud of and happy with our first meeting of the 2020-21 Rotary year – what a great start! I want to thank all those who attended and all those who spoke/presented. I also loved having several guests online, including Anna, our RYLA participant! You can invite anyone you feel would be interested at any of our meetings. I am already looking forward to our next one on Tuesday, August 25th (5:00pm EST)!
Until then, I want to remind you of some things for all to think about and act upon:
-Paul Harris Fellow Committee: I would like to start a committee of 3-5 members who are Paul Harris Fellows to determine our next recipients. Please write to me if you are interested in being a member or even the chair! If I do not receive any response, I’ll go and find you ;)
-Kingston/International Area Director: I am looking to start a new area within the club that encompasses Kingston and (larger) area and all international members (including the US). Anyone in that area can apply - just write to me!

August is Membership Month
What are some things we can do to strengthen membership and add new members to our fantastic club? Here are a few ideas – let me know of others!
1. Invite someone to attend our Online Social (Tuesday, August 11, 5:15 to about 6:15pm, EST). It’s free and it will be a lot of fun!
2. Post something that is Rotary-related on Facebook and tag the club (D7040 Passport Rotary Club). Maybe you joined another club’s online meeting, you saw a Rotary sign in a park, etc.
3. Wear your Rotary pin every day, and think of an ‘elevator pitch’ to explain what Rotary is if someone asks you about it. My ‘pitch’ is: “We are a group of professionals and business people who want to make a difference/do good in our local and international community.”

             Secretary's Thoughts

We had an excellent launch to our new Rotary Year at our first meeting of the year July 28th under President Jacinthe's leadership.  A total turnout of 23 members plus six guests including Anna our RYLA participant this year who spoke about her experience of being involved with RYLA and taking part in a RYLA online seminar last month.  All going well, Anna is looking forward to an exchange experience next summer with another exchange student from Switzerland.

Please don't forget to enter your make-ups in Club Runner - remember we're striving to achieve a 100% attendance record this year!

Have a great week, yours in Rotary,

Terry

We are now in Stage Three of re-opening our economy in most of Ontario and Quebec, but it is all the more important to remain cautious and stay safe.  Once again, this important message from Rotary International continues to be timely:

President-Elect Maddie Roy

Though the summer is passing by very quickly, there are still a few weeks of warm weather left and what better time to organize volunteer and service projects outside. If anybody else in Cornwall is interested in collaborating on a project with me, let me know!

I hope to see many of you at our meeting this upcoming Tuesday and at our social event which will be held on Tuesday, August 11.

August is Membership Month!

Last week we mentioned our challenge to all Passport Club Members. We’ve invited everyone to ask one person to join you in our August 11th Social event and it is intended to be a relaxed informal occasion.  You might invite your next door neighbour, or someone that you knew from Rotary before.

There’s a notice up top in our left hand column – which contains the Zoom link as well.

Online Social on August 11 (5:15pm). This is your invitation.
5:15-5:30pm -  People will log in and chat
5:30pm         -  Welcome everyone.

Introduce yourselves (i.e. name, city/area and 1 cool thing about you that we have not heard before).

5:45/5:50pm   Ask two or three people online why they joined Rotary, and what makes  them stay; if Hadi our District Governor is online with us (Jacinthe has invited him), we could ask him to start.

Continue with chatting, fellowship, etc. End around 6:15/6:30pm.

This meeting will be recorded as an attendance credit so you will not need to add it to your makeups. If you are adding in makeups, do not bank them. Try to pick an actual date that is not identified as a meeting.
