November is Foundation Month!

Dear Members,
Every month I am always looking forward to our online meeting. I especially enjoyed our last meeting on November 24:  we were able to talk about the Foundation, hear guest speaker Sarah Champagne tell us about her experience as a Peace Scholar, and even induct a new member (welcome, Chris!). Wow! What is certain is I couldn’t do all this without your help. Thank you for attending, participating, approving, sharing, and laughing at my jokes! And I think it is safe to say everyone who came early for some fellowship and left a bit later to discuss ways we can strengthen our bonds had a great time! I can feel that our club is getting stronger every week, thanks to all of our efforts. Merci!

As mentioned last week, Giving Tuesday will take place this Tuesday, December 1st. Why not choose to donate to our Foundation that day? You can decide where your money goes: Polio, one of the Areas of Focus, Disaster Relief, and more. Giving online has never been easier! Here’s the link: https://my.rotary.org/en/donate

And talking about it, December promises to be excellent with our Annual General Meeting on the 8th (4:00pm EDT) and our second online social on the 15th (1:00pm)! See you then :)
Secretary's Thoughts

Hello fellow D7040 Passport Club members and friends

President Jacinthe has already acknowledged our great “Foundation Month” meeting last Tuesday, but I just wanted to add that we were honoured to once again have such strong District Leadership representation at our regular monthly meeting with – DG Hadi, DG-Elect Fay and DG-Nominee – Michael – it was wonderful.

For you “Early Birds” please note that under our events column, the invitation from John Gale, President of the Cataraqui-Kingston R.C. to attend their regular virtual club meeting this Tuesday morning – December 1st at 6:30 AM.  I know it’s early, but this will be a great chance to hear first-hand from our current RI President Holger Knaack.  You will need to click on the link provided by Ariane in order to register and you will then receive an email with the link to the meeting on Tuesday AM.

I also wanted to make everyone aware that I have obtained a set of the slides used by our special guest speaker on Tuesday, RI Peace Scholar Sarah and I plan to include these as an attachment to the Nov 24thminutes.

That’s it for now – have a great week everyone!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Terry

President-Elect Maddie Roy

We are in the midst of Black Friday and the craziness that surrounds it, and what better time to give back to your community than now. Many areas of our district are participating in and organizing service events, such as Salvation Army Kettle Bell drives. Ask your local area representative what's going on and how you can be a part!

Have a wonderful week everyone :)

November is Foundation Month

Please note that in December we will once again be welcoming DG Hadi’s Foundation Moment back to our Bulletin pages.

In this week's feature President-Elect Maddie Roy tells us about Foundation Areas of:

                  Rotary's Areas of Focus:

Rotary's areas of focus are categories of service activities supported by global grants. For years there were six areas of focus: peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.

Under the Future Vision Plan, global grants are used to support these areas of focus within the framework of the RI Strategic Plan, which mandates the areas of focus as priorities and encourages that Rotarians orient their service toward them.

This summer Rotary decided to add a seventh area of focus: supporting the environment. “It is time for us to use our collective resources to invest in a smart and efficient way to protect our environment,” said Gary C.K.Huang, Rotary Foundation Trustee, “We are qualified to take this initiative because we are a global group of problem solvers with diversified talents.” Global grants applications for service projects supporting this area of focus will open in the summer of 2021. Things like solar panel installation, which was previously not eligible for global grant funding, will likely finally get the green light.

New Member Orientation

Did you know that we have a New Member Orientation program? As soon as a new member joins, they get an email message from me called “First Steps for the Passport Club”. It gives them information about how to sign in and change username and password. It also has three attachments – a Membercheatsheet that gives the basics on the ClubRunner process; an Email Message Center document that tells you how to get a hold of other members through ClubRunner; and a How to Add Your Own Makeups document.

We also have a New Member Orientation Program. If you’ve never looked for it, you should. There are 21 different tasks that you should do to get Rotary knowledge, especially if you’re brand new to Rotary. Even for returning Rotarians it might be a good idea to take a look at some of these. You can also find this from the Admin page, Membership, New Members Program.

Some of you will have done many of these things. If you can’t remember when you did it, write to me and I will delete that from your list. ClubRunner also has a New Member Orientation Overview in its support section. It explains the benefits of the program. Doing any of these activities counts as a makeup by the way, so why not try a few things during the holiday season?

Once again, I want to welcome our newly inducted member Chris Thompson, and congratulate his sponsor Margaret Shibley. Please consider doing what Margaret just did.  Sponsor a new member.  Need information? Talk to the Membership Committee.

Next week will be a return to the Classification or Meet the Member column and what should/could be in there. Our attendance is at 63.2%. You can check your own attendance in your profile, Rotary tab, scroll all the way to the bottom.

CREATING AND STRENGTHENING RELATIONS

Watch for a follow up email from Margaret Shibley which comes from the post meeting discussion on November 24th.  Margaret is looking for feedback from all of us!
