Documents/Website info

As members you should be familiar with the Documents section of our website. You need to be signed in. There are minutes of our meetings, year-end financial reports, job descriptions for various Board positions, ClubRunner articles and so on.

Under Grant Proposals, there is an idea for an international project with several e-clubs. If you are interested, contact me.

Meet the Member articles needed

Have you written your article introducing yourself yet? It does not take long and helps others in the club get to know you.

Adding a picture to your profile also helps others get to know you. Some of you may notice that your profile pictures have now been added.

Also, for some members, a biography has been added to their profile. Those are the Meet the Member articles that you have sent to me.

Grant Application Approved

Last year we applied for a District Grant to assist with planning for the Youth Now farm. We have finally been given the go-ahead and will need to contribute $3500. Some of that will come from assistance from other clubs, and from some of the fundraising revenue that we get from other clubs. We are asking everyone to contribut $50 towards our goal as well.

If you pay half-year or quarterly dues, include that $50 with your e-transfer for January 1. Just send a note to Dave that you have done this.

Don't forget. Dues are due!

Why Create an Account with Rotary International?

Recently I checked the status of members at RI and discovered that 14 members do not have a Rotary International account, called My Rotary.

Signing in to My Rotary gives you a customized experience and easier access to tools and information that are relevant to you.

Anyone can create an account and sign in. Existing Member Access users can re-register with their current user ID. For tips on registering and using the site, see RI website resources. For assistance, contact us.

The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: Week 28

Distinguished Rotary Foundation Alumni:  Some of the world’s most distinguished leaders are alumni of Rotary’s scholarship programs (current and past), including:  Ambassador Otto Borch of Denmark, the late Carlos Alberto da Monta Pinto, Prime Minister of Portugal; Sadako Ogata, the former UN High Commissioner for Refugees; Bill Moyers, prominent television journalist and former deputy director of the U.S. Peace Corps; Paul Volcker, professor, economist and former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank; Sir William Dean, last governor of the Commonwealth of Australia; Philip Lader, former U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain; renowned pianist Van Cliburn, winner of the first Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow; and finally, Nabil Oudeh, Past District Governor in our District.

THERE ARE MANY OTHERS AS WELL.  WHO CAN YOU RECOMMEND THAT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT ROTARY SCHOLAR?

District 7040 awards for you to nominate

In Documents you’ll find some details on awards that you should take a look at, based on the Avenues of Service.  What good members in our club would you nominate?

Rotary ABC's - International Responsibilities of a Rotarian

As an international organization, Rotary offers each member unique opportunities and responsibilities. Although every Rotarians’ first responsibility is to uphold the obligations of
citizenship of his or her own country, membership in Rotary enables Rotarians to take a broader view of international affairs. In the early 1950s, a Rotary philosophy was adopted to describe how a Rotarian may think globally. Here is what it said:

“A world-minded Rotarian:
• looks beyond national patriotism and considers himself* as sharing responsibility for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace;
• resists any tendency to act in terms of national or racial superiority;
• seeks and develops common grounds for agreement with peoples of other lands;
• defends the rule of law and order to preserve the liberty of the individual so that he may enjoy freedom of thought, speech, and assembly, and freedom from persecution, aggression, want, and fear;
• supports action directed toward improving standards of living for all peoples, realizing that poverty anywhere endangers prosperity everywhere;
• upholds the principles of justice for mankind;
• strives always to promote peace between nations and prepares to make personal sacrifices for that ideal;
• urges and practices a spirit of understanding of others’ beliefs as a step toward international goodwill, recognizing that there are certain basic moral and spiritual standards which will ensure a richer, fuller life.”

That is quite an assignment for any Rotarian to practice in thoughts and actions!
* When this philosophy was developed, Rotary was still an all-male organization. The description of a world-minded Rotarian today would obviously include all female members as well.

Don't forget. Dues are due!

We're ready for another shirt order

Our last order of shirts came in, see below. We get a better deal if we order at least 10 shirts, so let me know what size you need. The shirts are $45 each and we try to find a way to deliver without mailing costs.

I have name tags for our last 6 new members so contact me for a way to get them to you.

There will be an Ottawa area Presidents' meeting in Ottawa on January 14 at 7:00 am. I will be available for Ottawa Passport members, lunch at 12:00 pm that day at Monkey Joe's, Westgate Mall, 1265 Carling Avenue. Please RSVP if you are able to attend.

Did I mention that dues are due? If you pay semi-annually or quarterly, please make an e-transfer to d7040passport@gmail.com. Use the District number, 7040, for the security question.
