Ottawa Meeting Date Changed - again

On Thursday, May 10 I need to go to Gloucester High School to talk about next year’s Guatemala trip. If possible, I would like to meet with any Ottawa area club members. I will be at Perkins, next to the St. Laurent Shopping Centre after 1:00 pm. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting.

Documents

You need to be signed in to www.d7040passport.org. All documents that you can download, such as Events, ClubRunner information, Foundation information and so on can be found here. Events with other clubs is updated weekly as new events come up, and past events expire.

Check out the May Zone newsletter in Documents.

Foundation Walk Pledges

In our Documents section is a copy of a multiple donor form that is partly filled. Check the new donations. We are up to $220.00 but you still have this week to pledge.

I will fill this out so that it can go to the Rotary Foundation and you will be credited for it. Please send donations by e-transfer to me at ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com and the amounts for our club members will stay together.

If you prefer to donate to the Rotary Foundation directly, go to https://www.rotary.org/en/donate and make a note that this is for the D7040 Foundation Walk. Also, let me know so that I can add you to the total.

Celebrating Anniversaries!

We were chartered May 8, 2017. A number of our Rotarians actually became members on May 1.

Why?

From President Ian Riseley’s Message this month:
Wherever we live, whatever language we speak, whatever work our clubs are involved in, our vision is the same. We all see a world that could be better and that we can help to make better. We are here because Rotary gives us the opportunity to build the world we want to see – to unite and take action through Rotary: Making a Difference.

May the 4th Be with You

#On4thMay, 1988 the U.S. Supreme Court rules that Rotary clubs may not exclude women from membership on the basis of gender. Rotary issues a policy statement that any Rotary club in the United States can admit qualified women into membership.

The Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise, California (formerly Larkspur Landing), is chartered on 28 May. It becomes the first club after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling to have women as charter members.

Sylvia Whitlock, of the Rotary Club of Duarte, California, becomes the first female Rotary club president.

LIVESTREAM THE CONVENTION!

Greetings,
As someone who has registered for Rotary International Conventions in the past few years, we thought you would be interested to know that, for the first time, Rotary International will livestream inspiring general sessions and key breakout sessions from the 2018 convention. You can watch them live or whenever you have time for up to three months after the convention ends.

Livestreaming is available in English or Portuguese for $150.

Click the following link for a list of general and breakout sessions.

At last week's online meeting, Barbara reminded everyone to sign up for volunteering at the Rotary International Convention in June. There are many spaces available and you can choose whatever you like and make your own schedule. The link for this ishttp://rotary2018.org/volunteer .
