Welcome to a New Rotary Year

There is a lot of information in this bulletin, so read carefully.

Charter night

In keeping with the casual nature of our club, our charter night will be a potluck garden party at the Carriere residence, Tuesday, August 15, 2017, starting any time after 3. Bring an appetizer, a salad, a main dish, or a dessert - enough for at least 4 to 6 people. There will be corn on the cob. In the comment section of the registration, please mention what you are bringing.

There is no cost for this, but do register yourself and a guest if you wish so that we know how many place settings to have. Bring a chair and your own refreshments. Bring a bathing suit and towel if the weather is favourable. Go to our website homepage d7040passport.org and look for Upcoming Events on the left-hand side. Click on D7040 Passport Club charter night to register. You must be signed in.

The District Governor will be there at 5 PM to present the charter, and install any new members to Rotary. We will have name tags and pins for all members.

How do you vote?
Do you like a bulletin design with lots of colour as when I first started sending them, or do you prefer the simpler version that we have had since June? Let me know what you think.

Invoices
David Wood, our club treasurer has sent out invoices for 2017-2018 dues with instructions for payment. Those instructions can also be found on the homepage of our website, in the Members section.

Drop to Zero
There are now three videos on the home page of our club website. Watch all three of them and gain an attendance credit.

Ready to learn more about ClubRunner?
Join us for our ClubRunner 101 webinar on Wed, July 26 at 3:00pm EDT. This would count for an attendance credit.

Board members

We need we need to let someone have their name stand for Membership and the Foundation. A lot of information is sent from RI directly to those chairs and it would be helpful for us to have that information first hand. That way we can also have more participation at Board meetings also.

The next board meeting will be on Monday, July 31 so we do not interfere with the holiday weekend.

Question about marking attendance credits

If you take part in an activity that runs for a day, or over several hours, you need to mark that down as “Activity Name” – Hour 1, Hour 2, and so on. The ClubRunner system does not distinguish the hours so you need to do that yourself, unless it does not really matter to you. Remember that you do need to mark down your own activities. Go to Attendance, then Meetings in the blue line under that, then Make-ups on the left-hand side. Your best bet is to go for “auto-assign” because the system will put that make-up wherever it is needed.

There are a lot of golf tournaments sponsored by Rotary Clubs during the summer. Play or volunteer and count your time as an attendance credit. Here’s one to take a look at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/12th-annual-habitat-for-humanity-iqaluit-golf-tournament-tickets-34140954514

Classification

Robert (Bob) Whyte

I am a Pediatric Specialist Dentist in Ottawa, still working part time, living in Manotick. Previously I was a Rotarian for 33 years, until 2008. I first joined in Kingston, then Regina, then Ottawa area clubs holding many club positions including President. My favourite involvement was with youth at the club and district level, RYLA and Youth Exchange. My wife, Barbara, and I hosted a long term and all our 4 children went on short term exchanges. We travel extensively all over the world which made attending regular meetings difficult. I am also investigating short term volunteer work in third world countries. I look forward to getting back into Rotary and meeting Passport 7040 members.
