Six Rotary members were honoured in March as People of Action: Champions of Girls' Empowerment during Rotary Day with UNICEF in New York City. This distinction recognizes the honourees' commitment to improving girls' access to education, health, sanitation, and hygiene resources and their work to create environments where girls can flourish. Empowering Girls is one of RI President Shekhar Mehta's key initiatives, and he is encouraging clubs and districts to make it a focus of their service projects this year.
Momtaz Chowdhury from Bangladesh, Mildred Fragante from the Philippines, Elaine Ruiz from Brazil, Srinidhi S U from India, Lydiah Njoroge from Kenya, and Motalib Weijters from The Netherlands are working every day to create environments where girls can flourish.
We are less than one month away from a new Rotary year, and one that will prove to be very exciting! For those of you in and around Canada's capital, the opportunity to meet with incoming President Jennifer Jones and her Rotary entourage is fast approaching. Click here to read about her upcoming trip to District 7040.
Those of you in the Kingston area may be interested in 'Forest Therapy' at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation on June 23rd. Read more here!
The Rotary International Convention is happening right now in Houston! An important focus this year is providing attendees with a greener experience, and Rotary is using an app created by a late-Rotarian to do so! The Footprint app helps us track and learn about the environmental impact of everything that we do. It's an important step in understanding our interactions with the environment, and a great opportunity to challenge your friends and fellow Rotarians.
Have a great week,
Maddie

A five-member team from Caravane Philanthrope (https://caravanephilanthrope.com) is in Tijuana, Mexico, bringing play and joy to children in refugee camps. This photo is at a women's shelter where the team performed and conducted circus workshops for kids and adults alike. The tank pictured is part of a fresh water system put in by the local Rotary Club - Tijuana Oeste. John Shibley was delighted to find that Rotary was already there, helping where needed. (And no, I've had no influence on his wardrobe choices since he was 2.)
