This initiative by the Board of Trustees of The Rotary Foundation encourages “every Rotarian, every year” to:
Participate in a Foundation program that is making a difference in the world
Contribute to the Foundation’s Annual Fund at a sustainable amount
The Rotary Foundation even has banners to celebrate clubs where every member contributes at least US$25 to the Annual Fund with a US$100 per capita during the Rotary year. Today nearly 1/3 of Rotarians participate in this initiative. In 2019/20 The Rotary Foundation was able to award over 1,300 global grants for large scale sustainable projects due to the generosity of these Rotarians. Think about what Rotary could accomplish in the world if all of our 1.2 million worldwide members each gave at least US$25 to our Foundation’s Annual Fund.
If you are a part of the “Every Rotarian, Every Year” initiative – I personally thank you for your support of The Rotary Foundation and its work.
All Passport Club members should familiarize them selves with our District's Youth Protection Policy. It applies to any Rotary activity members may be involved with as Rotarians with Youth.
Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity to see a lot of you online (and many guests) at our first Online Social! What a lovely event! I learned a lot about our members, and was very excited about the many guests - not to mention the induction of new members Liz and Corina, and of honorary member Nico! I really want to repeat the event, but next time, we will meet earlier in the day so that our far away members can join at an earlier time as well!
Since we are an online club and use ClubRunner frequently, I wanted to bring to your attention the upcoming ClubRunner Experience 2020 (the first virtual CR conference)! It will take place (online) on August 20th and 21st and there will be many different sessions to attend. I am certainly going to try to participate in some of these sessions, like the one on setting up virtual events and the one entitled “ClubRunner on the Go” (about the CR app!). Check it out! https://site.clubrunner.ca/page/clubrunner-experience-conference-2020
Finally, I want to remind you to take about 5 minutes and register for the 2020 District Conference here: https://rotary7040.com/sitepage/discon-2020/ It’s free and it is a unique occasion to meet other Rotarians, Rotaractors and other members of the Rotary family, as well as hear excellent speakers! I am very much looking forward to this time online together – let’s be the club with the most registrants :)
Secretary's Thoughts
In this issue of the Bulletin President Jacinthe has encouraged all members to register for the District Conference "DisCon 2020". This year it will be virtual and registration and participation in all of the Conference activities is FREE!
She has also encouraged everyone to take advantage of the ClubRunner Experience 2020 - and she has provided the registration link for this "virtual" event which takes place this coming Thursday and Friday August 20th and 21st.
I also want to draw everyone's attention to Margaret Shibley's article "Saying Hi to Chenai". This article foreshadows the commencement of the Rotary F.A.R. Project in Kingston and next week Margaret will be providing an update on the status of that project which our Passport Club along with the four Kingston Rotary Clubs are helping to sponsor. This is an exciting moment that we have all been waiting for.
Finally, I want to draw everyone's attention to the left hand column below about Youth Protection Certification. Many of our members are participating in special projects as a way of completing their make-up requirements and some of these volunteer activities may involve working with youth. If you are participating in such activities it is important that you make this known to President Jacinthe, Membership Director. Ariane or myself as soon as possible in order that we can determine if the Youth Protection Certification policy may apply to you. You can click on the link included in this column to learn more about what the policy covers.
We are now in Stage Three of re-opening our economy in most of Ontario and Quebec, but it is all the more important to remain cautious and stay safe.
Have a great week everyone!

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.
Last week I wrote about becoming a benefactor to the Rotary Foundation. This is done through including the endowment fund as a beneficiary in your estate plans or giving $1,000 outright to benefit the Rotary Foundation.Gifts to Rotary's Endowment ensure that future Rotarians will have the resources they need to design and implement sustainable projects year after year. As a club, our goal is for more of our members to consider becoming benefactors.
“My family’s gifts to The Rotary Foundation honor friendships we have made around the world. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve and to give.” - William Gray from the Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston
In other news, the Rotary Clubs and other Rotarians in the Cornwall area are collecting medical supplies to be sent to Lebanon to aid in the relief efforts. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Last week you saw a little poem about the ClubRunner app. It showed you how to find it ClubRunner and it gave you a short video of what it can do https://youtu.be/PFLu08meAHI . I strongly encourage you to get this for your phone. You will have access to all our club members according to the information that is in their profiles. It even allowed me in 2018 to send a message to everyone cancelling a meeting because our flight was cancelled. You can also use it to get District information.
We are a Passport Club. If you have been following our Facebook page, you’ll see Rotary club banners from all around the world. I post one every day and will continue to do so until I run out. Also, today I re-posted some pictures of our charter night August 15, 2017.
About makeups: We are so early in the Rotary year. Please do not bank your makeups but choose an actual date for a meeting. Do not bank anything until you get to June 29, 2021. Banked makeups really do not count for our attendance credit.
Last Tuesday, 11th of August, I was happy to nip down to Kingston to represent the D7040 Passport RC at a formal cheque presentation ceremony to celebrate the start of the F.A.R. project, held in the garden at the Pathways / KCHC premises. In all, 7 representatives of all 4 clubs in Kingston as well as the Passport Club attended. Five representatives of P2E and CKHC were there also, including the CEO, the Director of Administration, the Program Director, the Facilitator/Counsellor, and the student alumni co-ordinator (3 to the left of the Pathways Banner, and 2 to the right, back row).
The photo below was taken and sent to India at their request. Madras Coromandel RC is planning an event to celebrate a decade of community service and wanted to feature the F.A.R. project as one of the International Service projects they have taken on. Although a formal and expanded local celebration of the inauguration of the project will be held soon, Cataraqui-Kingston RC is happy to be recognized in India. Madras Coromandel is an energetic club with many large impactful Global Grant projects under their collective belts in India and East Africa - and now North America! It's pretty neat to be included in their list. Madras Coromandel RC contributed $5000 USD to the F.A.R. project and was the first International club to step up to the plate. The event also celebrates the contributions to their club and to TRF of both Ravi Raman and Gopal Balasubrahmanyan (Bala), both of whom are members of the Arch Klumph Society. (Hint: look up the Arch Klumph Society!) Both gentlemen were extraordinary hosts when Barry Rowland and I went to Chennai in February 2019 with CK RC.
