FOUNDATION MOMENT

What is The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of The Rotary Foundation. From digging clean water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment in a day, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that all contributions given to the Annual Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.  In the 2018-19 Rotary year, US $126.1 million was donated to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is comprised of donations from Rotarians, friends of Rotary, corporations, workplace-giving vehicles and can be matched by corporate matching gifts to leverage your donations. There is even an online resource that allows you to see if your company has a charitable matching program…check it out at: www.rotary.org/matchinggifts.  Will you support the Annual Fund with a $10 monthly gift this year?

President's Message
Jacinthe Paille
member photo
I can hardly believe it has already been more than a month since I became president of the club! As president, I’ve been busy planning meetings and responding to messages (among other Rotary-related tasks), and I have to admit: I love it :)
-In July I attended many Breakouts organized by the Rotary Virtual Convention. I learned a lot about different programs/tools (etc.), and I also connected with Rotarians from around the world. You can watch the recordings for these sessions here: https://convention.rotary.org/en/honolulu/july-breakouts
*And watching any of these counts as a makeup!
-On August 4th I had a very productive meeting with the Foundation Committee; you’ll have a chance to hear more about it at the August 25th meeting. Would you like to find out more about what giving to the Foundation can do? Here is a short video that gives a quick introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmQhnFv-u3U Why not share that video with someone so they can learn about our Foundation, too?

August is Membership Month
But before our next meeting, it’s time for our first our Online Social! If you have not marked it down already, reserve next Tuesday, August 11, 5:15 to about 6:15pm, EST to ‘mingle’ with club members and guests!
Invite someone to attend! It’s free and it will be a lot of fun! I am looking forward to seeing you then – with your favourite drink in hand!
             Secretary's Thoughts

Well, our first Passport Club Social is coming up this Tuesday afternoon and you can join the meeting at 5:15 PM using the regular club link in the Invitation in the left-hand sidebar from where you're reading right now.  The first fifteen minutes will be virtual “mingling” and President Jacinthe will kick things off at 5:30. This social will be an informal event and I hope that every member will bring at least one guest.  It will be a great introduction to Rotary and more specifically to our Passport club.

Please don’t forget to keep your makeups current so we can track our success at achieving that magic 100% attendance this year!

Any questions about what qualifies as a makeup can be addressed to either Ariane or me.
Terry

We are now in Stage Three of re-opening our economy in most of Ontario and Quebec, but it is all the more important to remain cautious and stay safe.  Once again, this important message from Rotary International continues to be timely:

President-Elect Maddie Roy

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.

There are many ways to support the Rotary Foundation - including some club initiatives to look forward to in the coming weeks and month!

One of the easiest ways to leave a Rotary legacy and contribute to the good that the Rotary Foundation does is become a benefactor. This is when "you include the Endowment Fund as a beneficiary in your estate plans or when you donate $1,000 or more to the fund outright."

That is taken directly from Rotary's website and if you want to learn more about the endowment fund click the blue text above. I'll continue to discuss and demystify this process in my bulletin entry next week.

On another note, along with other Passport Rotarians in Cornwall I have been exploring the possibility of a bottle drive in September to benefit the Rotary Foundation. If you are interested in participating, let me know!

Also - hope to see you all at the social event taking place on August 11th!

August is Membership Month!

How many people have you invited to our Social on August 11? I've invited five and I just thought of one other today. It is intended to be a relaxed, informal occasion.  You might invite your next door neighbour, or someone that you knew from Rotary before.

There’s a notice up top in our left hand column – which contains the Zoom link as well.

This meeting will be recorded as an attendance credit so you will not need to add it to your makeups. If you are adding in makeups, do not bank them. Try to pick an actual date that is not identified as a meeting.

                    . ___________.

It was a rainy day when I got the call.
He needed to know, right away,
"What's his email" he did say.
Holding my cell, I wanted to yell, please, please, give me the spell,
The magic we found, by bringing it down
Gave way to new sight: email addresses, events, phone numbers...ah...the light!
With rushing to cheer, the awakening is here!
Downloading the ClubRunner app, all with a fingertip, it was a snap,
Your club members’ detail will be very clear, your district executives have no fear.
You'll find what you wish, there'll be no need to fish.  It's smart on your cell, just do it...time will tell.
Need to know why?  Click here and you'll fly.
Now download that app – ClubRunner - I say
If Doug can do it, we're all on our way!
