A new Rotary year is upon us! How wonderful it is that the last twelve months have been filled with fellowship and a common commitment to service above self - may the coming twelve be just as successful. I am so excited to be embarking on this journey with such a strong, supportive club.

I have often found myself explaining what Rotary is over the last few weeks. These conversations have reminded me just how much I appreciate what Rotary has done for me and how great Rotary’s impact has been on my life. From Interact, to Rotary Youth Exchange, to Rotaract, and to now be serving as President of this club - it’s been quite the journey! Along the way I have been lucky enough to meet amazing people that live their lives according to to RI President Shekhar Mehta’s theme for the 2021-22 Rotary year: Serve to Change Lives. What do we want our impact to be and how can we, as a passport club, navigate service in order to make tangible change in the lives of others? There are so many exciting prospects in front of us and I can’t wait to dive into this year with you all.

Secretary's Thoughts

Does anyone read this bulletin?
We're beginning to wonder.
If so please send me a note saying you read it.
If you don't respond, I'll assume you don't read it. Please include how you would improve this bulletin. Also should it be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, semi -annual, annual or never?
President-Elect

Continued from 4 July

Last week I mentioned learning opportunities I intend to tap as I prepare for the 2022-23 Rotary year. In addition to the Directed Training (discussed last week) that Rotary provides for its Presidents Elect, there are two other areas (that I know of so far!):

PERSONALY DIRECTED LEARNING

The next route involves taking responsibility for my own learning, looking for knowledge and wisdom wherever I can find it.

1) There is an enormous amount of information available at the https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference. From courses to sample documents, I expect to still be tapping this resource for years to come.

2) Shadowing my President, both to learn and to support, is yet another way to acquire the knowledge and experience that will support my actions next Rotary year.

3) Conversations and learning from other Rotary members and leaders. 10 July I was able to attend the Rotary District 7040 Membership Chair Zoom Meeting. I also have served on the Cataraqui-Kingston RC International Service Committee for the past year, and will continue to do so for 2021-22.

LEARNING FROM YOU

Less formally, being equipped to take on the role of President is also about learning from other Rotarians, both long-time and recent, all of whom have considerable to offer in experience, wisdom, and perspective. I would love to hear from any of you if/when there is an issue to discuss, an idea to develop or to propose, some advice to receive, some support to be requested. My contact information is on Club Runner, Member Profile.

So far, we have had three members mark in their participation. Notice that I did not say attendance, because we want you to think of participating in as many activities as you can. Makeup dates have been loaded on up to the end of January 2022. The rest will follow soon. You mark in your own makeups after you have signed in. This document will tell you how, just click on the link. It’s also on the website home page. What counts as a makeup? There’s a document for that too.

Note that you only add makeups, not meetings. The dates for meetings are on Tuesday of every week, so try to find a date that’s close to your actual participation. I have identified our club meetings, so do not to use those for makeups.

The dates that you use should be in this Rotary year 2021-2022. Since we are at the beginning of the Rotary year, do not bank your makeups but choose an actual date for a meeting. Do not bank anything until you get to June 30, 2022. Banked makeups really do not count for our attendance credit.

Here are a few other things you might want to do. Each one counts as a makeup, so be sure to mark that in. Originally these were part of new member add-ons, but there were too many of them, so I took them out.
  1. Update all your member information in ClubRunner. Include DOB. Add a picture.
  2. Go to rotary.org My Rotary, open an account. Update any information that is incorrect. Add picture.
  3. Take a course in the rotary.org learning center (learn.rotary.org).
  4. Find out information about the Rotary Global Rewards Program.
  5. Watch a video at vimeo.rotary.org.
  6. Have Coffee with a Rotarian, see list.
