Surveys

One of the goals that we have for 2018-19 is to do a classification survey. In Rotary, members’ classifications refer to their occupations, professional expertise, and training. Rotary clubs aim to include members from a number of classifications because bringing together professionals from different fields and industries increases a club’s capacity to serve its community as well as giving its members an opportunity to learn more about others in the community. To maximize your impact, strive for professional diversity that represents the professions held in your community. Because business activities and terminology vary from community to community, Rotary doesn’t maintain a comprehensive list of classifications. Be open to non-traditional professions that bring new skills and perspectives to your club.

Ready to start? Gather member data:

Please complete the Occupation and Professional Expertise Survey online. You can complete in your own time. The purpose of the classification assessment is to find out what skills and expertise that we have and that having a good mix of professions represented benefits our club. We’d like to have surveys completed by December 4.

Rotary ABC's

Articles were collected and published as The ABCs of Rotary. The collection provides a guide for Rotarians to the colorful history of their organization, its customs and traditions, and the current status of its global programs.

The Secretariat

Many Rotarians consider the Secretariat simply another name
for the RI World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA.
Actually, it is much more. The name describes the entire
operations of the general secretary and the more than 600-
member staff working to make Rotary International and The
Rotary Foundation run smoothly and effectively. In addition to World Headquarters, the Secretariat includes seven RI
international offices around the world. The Secretariat’s sole
purpose is to serve the clubs, districts, and administrative
officers of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
RI World Headquarters, in a building called One Rotary Center,
is the headquarters of the Secretariat.

Getting Ready for our AGM

If you are interested in an executive position, let Ariane of Jacinthe know by November 30. At the moment, the following people have let their name stand for next year:

President - Chris Cochrane
President Elect and Foundation - Jacinthe Paille
Secretary and Membership - Ariane Carriere

No other positions have been requested, but if you are interested you can still let your name stand.

If you are unable to attend on December 4 you need to fill out a proxy form to give the executive the ability to act on your behalf. Click on the link and follow the instructions.

To prepare, get your makeups in so that we can see what everyone is doing.

Feedback from DisCon 2018

A report from the District Governor can be found in Documents. The District Conference in Kingston was full of ideas. Look for highlights on the district website. Over 200 ideas were generated! People asked for a way to make online comments so continue the discussion here. (Requires log-in to district website.)

There will be a special District Council meeting on December 16, at 8:30 pm, to discuss the findings of DisCon 2018

Many of the ideas generated were about membership. There will be an RI membership seminar online on Wednesday 5 December at 7:00 pm. You need to fill out the attached invitation if you want to participate.

How do we relate to other Passport Clubs?

Recently there was an online meeting of all Passport Clubs in North America. You can find a list of all Passport Clubs in Documents.

One of the things that we talked about was the fact that some of the documents that RI puts out do not "fit" for Passport Clubs. An example of that is the Member Satisfaction Survey. We agreed that questions asking about speakers at our meetings were not really relevant.

Could you take a look at the satisfaction survey and give me some feedback on changes that you feel are necessary? There may be complete sections that we need to leave out. Some of the wording may need to be changed.

Eventually, this survey will be online, just like the Classification Survey that you can read about on the left of this column.

Documents to Check

There is a document in our Documents section about how fake emails and social media accounts are targeting Rotarians. Take the time to read that article. Find out about ShelterBox and how to prepare for November, The Rotary Foundation month.

There's a letter from Barry Rassin, the President of Rotary International and the Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation, Ron Burton.

Several newsletters have also been added

Fundraising

Yes, I know, our club does not do fundraisers. However, we often have the opportunity to work with other clubs and raise some funds for our club because we get a cut. We also get makeup credit for the time we spend.

Calendars for West Ottawa are by far the best deal for us because we get $10 for every calendar sold. Len Goddard is looking after members in the Ottawa area, and Ariane is looking after the Cornwall area. So far, most of the Cornwall calendars have been sold, there are only 10 left. Anyone from the Montreal or Kingston area wanting calendars, let us know so we can make delivery arrangements. Next up is also the Cornwall Club with Christmas hams. If you want any, let me know.

Although it's not a fundraiser for us, but for Youth Now Farm, one of our causes, orders are now accepted for large free-range turkeys. Go to http://www.youthnowfarm.ca/store/p11/Turkey_-_Deposit.html to order.

Foundation Month

While Foundation donations are voluntary, I would really like you to consider making a donation in the month of November. Our Foundation chair, Curry Wood, mentioned in a recent letter to all of us that we don’t have any weekly meals to buy or weekly fees, fines or Happy Dollars. Perhaps you could consider a monthly donation to the Foundation in lieu of these expenses. If you are already making a regular gift to the Foundation it is greatly appreciated.

At the very bottom of our Documents page your will find Rotary Direct Canada or Rotary Direct USA that tell you how to go about making a regular Rotary donation.

Our club can easily receive a Foundation banner for Every Rotarian Every Year. It means that every Rotarian in the club has donated.
