Events

For some reason, Events and Birthdays and Anniversaries have not switched into March yet. Look for them next week.

Giving to Your Local Foodbank

The $25 cards from the Loblaws bread rebate are now starting to come in. If you have not applied, this is the website https://www.loblawcard.ca/ . If you’ve received your Loblaws $25.00 card, you know what to do. Spend the card and give a donation of $25 to your local foodbank. They will be able to purchase much more from the donation, than from a gift card.

Meet the Member articles needed

Have you written your article introducing yourself yet? It does not take long and helps others in the club get to know you.

Adding a picture to your profile also helps others get to know you. Some of you may notice that your profile pictures have now been added.

Also, for some members, a biography has been added to their profile. Those are the Meet the Member articles that you have sent to me.

What’s New

At our Feb. 27 Board meeting, we had a great discussion about many things. Jacinthe will give us minutes when they are done. We decided the main goals for next Rotary year, based on the Rotary Citation requirements which you can find in the Documents section of our website, see article below.

One of the things that I have been reading about membership is to let club members suggest things they would like to do. Jacinthe mentioned the Little Lending Library. You take a book and leave a book. This project has been very successful in helping students enjoy reading. The unit can be installed anywhere. After that meeting I saw three different pictures on Facebook pages, so I felt that was a sign to do some more investigating. You can find more information on these website, or just Google.
Take one, leave one
Another venture that we talked about was an online auction. This has been done with other clubs, so to give this our own twist, we will feature items that our members have made, crafted, or been personally involved with in some way. We will discuss the timing of the online auction at our next meeting, but in the meantime there is an article on online silent auction rules in the Documents section.

Have you been to our club Documents section?

You need to be signed in to www.d7040passport.org to do that. All documents that you can download, such as Events, ClubRunner information, Foundation information and so on can be found at https://content.clubrunner.ca/13757/Document/List?SelectedId=af5b6ba3-0293-408d-8878-7e920d5afafb . Rather than include a download list, you will probably see this link from now on. Events with other clubs is updated weekly as new events come up, and past events expire.

All because of one Membership seminar

After our Board meeting on February 27, I took part in a Membership webinar. You can see the 25-minute webinar here https://vimeo.com/258020246 . Suggestions were plentiful. One was to become more visible in the community, and as a result, we have joined the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce. You can find us in the directory here. I have not investigated the Ottawa area yet.

We will be putting notices in the Seaway News Community Calendar of our presence. This is a free service and hopefully will direct some interest our way. When I was reading the Community Calendar I found out about the Telephone Assurance Program (T.A.P.). You can volunteer from the comfort of your own home. Volunteers make a daily phone call to a senior living alone. The call provides a security check. I signed up on Thursday and made my first call on Friday. Information is on the Documents page. While this is a Cornwall based program, anyone from other areas is welcome to volunteer. I have not found out if a similar program exists in Ottawa, or other places where our members are.

If you are on Twitter, look for our club @D7040passport. This was also because of the webinar. Instagram will come this week. To make that effective, I need pictures. Can you send me some photos of things that you are doing? It can be as simple as having someone photograph you where you are volunteering.

Do you know any Rotary alumni? Someone from a former Group Study Exchange, a Youth Exchange student, someone who has attended RYLA perhaps?
We will be announcing our Board meetings on Facebook every month and will invite anyone interested to join in. I am also looking into the possibility of joining in a meeting online with the newly chartered Pacific Northwest Passport Club, or another e-club.
