Secretary's Thoughts
Hello fellow Rotary Club D7040 Passport members,
My message with this bulletin started out very short, but turned out to be a bit longer than expected.
The motion to accept all three draft minutes of meetings including July 30; August 27; and September 24, 2019 was seconded by Len Goddard and has so far has received affirmative votes from a number of members, but not quite a quorum as yet. Please note that the August 27, 2019 minutes have been corrected to show David Woods absence. Here's the link to the corrected minutes: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/13757/Documents/en-us/9b48c192-f589-4f15-921e-473c8ddc7e70/1/
Several members have raised the question of whether or not they can vote in favour of minutes of a meeting for which they were not present. Robert's Rules of Order says yes, and not only that, but any member in good standing can move a motion to adopt minutes of a previous meeting whether or not they attended that meeting.
I am also attaching here a new document that has been uploaded to our web page concerning a possible Fundraising opportunity that our Board and Membership may want to consider. Unfortunately I cannot provide you with a link here to the document in question, but you can find it on right at the top of the Documents page and if you click on that link it will take you to the PowerPoint Presentation with a unique opportunity promoted by the Rotary Club of Mississauga.
This 59/50 Lottery opportunity potentially seems to ensure a fast return of money raised by members selling tickets to Ontario Residents, so any tickets sold outside of Ontario would require purchasers to provide an Ontario address, similar to what we do for the sale of the Ottawa Rotary Calendars.
We are seeking more information on how the Lottery will be operated and in due course you can expect a recommendation/decision by the Board as to whether or not we may want to participate. In the meantime I hope you will take five minutes to review the PowerPoint and let us know what you think of this idea.
I hope we all have a great week.
Terry
