President's Message
CJ Cochrane
member photo
Once again, a reminder.
On November 26,
our District Governor,
Gerry Lambert,
will be doing his official club visit.
He will attending our general meeting
which begins about 5:30 pm.
That's because at 5:00 pm,
Gerry wants to meet with all Board Members
privately for 30 minutes.
I'll be sending a private Zoom link
a few days before the event.
Please be on time for this meeting with Gerry.
It's important!

The event at President-elect Jacinthe's home
in Montreal on November 30 has been cancelled.
Instead she will be speaking about the Foundation
at our November 26 general meeting.

Have sent out an email asking for nominations
for President nominee (to take office July 2021)
Nominations for other positions will be called in the New Year.

As November is Foundation month,
please consider giving.
Even a small amount helps.

Till next week ...

        Secretary's Thoughts

Hello fellow Rotary Club D7040 Passport members,

My message with this bulletin started out very short, but turned out to be a bit longer than expected.

The motion to accept all three draft minutes of meetings including July 30; August 27; and September 24, 2019 was seconded by Len Goddard and has so far has received affirmative votes from a number of members, but not quite a quorum as yet.  Please note that the August 27, 2019 minutes have been corrected to show David Woods absence.  Here's the link to the corrected minutes: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/13757/Documents/en-us/9b48c192-f589-4f15-921e-473c8ddc7e70/1/

Several members have raised the question of whether or not they can vote in favour of minutes of a meeting for which they were not present.  Robert's Rules of Order says yes, and not only that, but any member in good standing can move a motion to adopt minutes of a previous meeting whether or not they attended that meeting.

I am also attaching here a new document that has been uploaded to our web page concerning a possible Fundraising opportunity that our Board and Membership may want to consider.  Unfortunately I cannot provide you with a link here to the document in question, but you can find it on right at the top of the Documents page and if you click on that link it will take you to the PowerPoint Presentation with a unique opportunity promoted by the Rotary Club of Mississauga.

This 59/50 Lottery opportunity potentially seems to ensure a fast return of money raised by members selling tickets to Ontario Residents, so any tickets sold outside of Ontario would require purchasers to provide an Ontario address, similar to what we do for the sale of the Ottawa Rotary Calendars.

We are seeking more information on how the Lottery will be operated and in due course you can expect a recommendation/decision by the Board as to whether or not we may want to participate.  In the meantime I hope you will take five minutes to review the PowerPoint and let us know what you think of this idea.

I hope we all have a great week.

Terry

November Is Foundation Month
A Message from Jacinthe...

How can my donation make a difference?

Are you someone who believes that one person can make a difference? What about one dollar – or five, or twenty: can any of these amounts make a real change? Well, when it comes to giving to the Rotary Foundation, any donation (even very small) can have a big impact on the lives of several people. That’s why I give! Here are a few examples.
-Sixty cents can provide a vaccine against polio – imagine the number of immunized children that means if you give only $10!
-Fifty dollars can provide access to clean water – something we, as North Americans, take for granted every day.
-Five hundred dollars can help “launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children”.
These are only a few examples – there is so much more your funds can do! For more information, go to https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation ; there, you can also donate, read about our Foundation’s history, and more.

Please Note this message from Ariane regarding Grants Management Seminars

There is now one Grants Management Seminar left for 2019 – which will be held on December 7 in Kemptville. If our club wants to qualify for grants next year, we need to have the president and president-elect at least take part. If we want to go for a Global Grant, we need to have those two people and the project lead for grants. Any D7040 Passport Club Member can attend this remaining grants management seminar (and we need at least two members to attend a Grants Management Seminar for the experience in Rotary grants if you wish. Until your name shows up on one of the registrations, you are not shown as “qualified” for this year.

Membership News

We are still looking for another member for the Membership Committee. The Rotary Citation requires that we have 5 members on the committee.  Please contact Ariane if interested.
