Support The Rotary Foundation on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global movement for charities and individuals to come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. On 28 November, join the community of donors that support Rotarian projects around the world by making an online gift to The Rotary Foundation. Online giving is a fast, secure way to help families and communities that need it most — no wrapping paper required!

Meet the Member articles needed

Have you written your article introducing yourself yet? It does not take long and helps others in the club get to know you.

Adding a picture to your profile also helps others get to know you. Some of you may notice that your profile pictures have now been added.

Also, for some members, a biography has been added to their profile. Those are the Meet the Member articles that you have sent to me.

Update on Goals and Strategic Plan for 2017-18

On April 19, 2017, before we were even chartered, we decided on some goals for our club and what we wanted to do as Rotarians.
For planning purposes, we agreed on:

A 10% increase in members for 2017-2018. We started the year with 23 members, and are currently at 28. That goal has been reached.

Everyone to donate to the Rotary Foundation. This has not happened yet. The easiest way to make sure that you do this is through Rotary Direct. There is a download form on the home page www.d7040passport.org that you can use. Even if you pledge only $20.00 per month, you’ll become a Sustaining Member (one who gives every year). The month of November is Foundation month. I hope you donated to PolioPlus in October and that you will donate to the Foundation this month. This is the link https://www.rotary.org/en/donate . You will need your Rotary ID number. Consider Giving Tuesday as your day to make that donation.

Everyone to enter personal attendance credits. We’re doing well with this. There are some people that I’d like to see more activity for, and some who have not posted at all, but overall we’re getting over 50% participation. Even our newer members have taken to doing this rather easily.

And, we need to establish our role in the District 7040 Rotary family. This is happening slowly but the rest of the district is becoming more aware of us. Several of our newer members have been transfers from other clubs and we even have a brand-new Rotarian referred by one of the AG’s (Area Governors). The message has gone out to have events posted on the district calendar.

We will be discussing the Strategic Plan at our AGm December 5.

Foundation Dinners

If you are interested in a Foundation dinner in the Ottawa area, let me know. These will take place in January and February. If you are interested in one in Cornwall, let me know also.

Salvation Army Update Len is coordinating efforts for the Kettle Drive in Ottawa for December 9. Ariane has contacted Oren Cole in Cornwall and will plans are in the works for the same day in Cornwall. Anyone can participate in a two-hour shift and count that as an activity.

WASH E-Club holds regular Issues Forum
The District 9980 Rotary E-Club of WASH will be hosting bi-monthly forums presently focused on women and gender issues. These forums allow you to tune in, ask questions and collaborate with wash experts.

The first WASH and Women Forum was held on September 30, with presenter Dr. Beatrice Chisenga. You can view the program on YouTube by using this link Designing a Gender Sensitive Community Based WASH Project: The case of the rural hand pump.

The WASH and Women Forum on November 11, featured Dr. Tiffany Cone presenting on "Gender, Power, and Social Change - Reflections on Teaching at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh."

You can view all of the WASH e-Clubs programs on Wash e-Club YouTube Channel. What an easy and informative way to get a make-up.

To learn how to participate in future on-line forums visit Rotary E-Club of WASH Facebook or contact foster.annette@gmail.com directly to receive connection information.
