District Governor's Foundation Moment

What is a Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholarship?
Established in 1947, the original Ambassadorial Scholarship program was designed to further international understanding and friendly relations among different countries. With the Rotary Grants model launch, scholarships are now used to fund study by graduate students whose career goals support one or more of Rotary's areas of focus. The funding is the same as a global humanitarian grant with a minimum scholarship amount of US$30,000. Upon returning home, Rotary Scholars share with Rotarians and others their experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country and what career they will go into to meet the seven areas of focus and spread goodwill and awareness.
Do you know any students you would like to nominate for a scholarship?

January is Vocational Service Month.

What does vocational service mean? How can you make an impact with your vocation? Hear from some Rotarians who have found opportunities to have a significant impact in the world and in their communities through vocational service by attending our January District Training Assembly.

Please register for the session which will take place tomorrow (January 17th) at 7 pm EDT, 4 pm Pacific.
(See the link in the Editor's Note below to register)

The Foundation Virtual Mini-Session #5 is about Rotary Scholarships will take place on
Saturday, January 22nd at 11 am Eastern, 4 pm Pacific, 5pm Europe/ Egypt time.
Bonnie Black and Katie Burke will be walking us through Rotary's Global and Peace Fellow scholarships - click here for the link!

Though we are a global club, the territory of our district is in the thick of winter right now. Temperatures can reach dangerous lows leaving vulnerable members of our community, including the homeless population, at risk. Now is a wonderful time to consider donating any extra warm clothes and winter accessories.

Have a great week,

Maddie

From the President Elect

How can your vocation have an impact in Rotary?

How might vocational service fit with Passport Club goals and capacities?

January is vocational service month. What does vocational service mean? How can you make an impact with your vocation? Hear from some Rotarians who have found opportunities to have a significant impact in the world and in their communities through vocational service - please attend the
District Training Assembly, 7:00 pm Eastern, 4 pm Pacific, tomorrow

( Please register as per Secretary Chris' words above)

Special guest speaker will be Mark Wafer. Find out how Mark and his wife, Director Valarie Wafer, demonstrated vocational service in their work of managing several Tim Hortons franchises.

When we think about the number of incredible minds, careers, and hearts of Passport Club members, it seems clear that this is an area real opportunity to take some actions as a club that could involve any of us who are interested, in ways unique to the nature of our club. We will be getting into discussions soon regarding strategic direction and goals. So get the mental gears moving by attending the District Training Assembly tonight at 7:00 pm - then give some thought to what strengths and passions make you unique, to what makes Passport Club unique, and to where, together, we could turn that into significant impact.

Sharing Rotary with New Members

Are you aware of the responsibility or obligation most Rotarians fail to perform? Paying their dues? Attending meetings? Contributing to the club's service fund? Participating in club events and projects? No - none of these!

Of all the obligations a person accepts when joining a Rotary club, the one in which most Rotarians fail is "sharing Rotary." The policies of Rotary International clearly affirm that every individual Rotarian has an "obligation to share Rotary with others and to help extend Rotary through proposing qualified persons for Rotary club membership." It is estimated that less than 30 percent of the members of most Rotary clubs have ever made the effort to propose a new member. Thus, in every club, there are many Rotarians who readily accept the pleasures of being a Rotarian without ever sharing that privilege with another qualified individual. The Rotary policy on club membership states: "In order for a Rotary club to be fully relevant to its community and responsive to the needs of those in the community, it is important and necessary that the club include in its membership all fully qualified prospective members located within its territory."

Only a Rotarian may propose a customer, neighbour, client, supplier, executive, relative, business associate, professional or other qualified person to join a Rotary club. Don’t forget about alumni – former Rotarians, Youth Exchange students, Rotaractors or Interactors.

Have you accepted your obligation to share Rotary? The procedures are very simple. The download for how to propose a member is on our home page and can also be found HERE.  Everyone must know at least one person who should belong to Rotary.
