FOUNDATION MOMENT

Who is a Rotary Foundation Bequest Society Member?

Those who have made commitments for future gifts of $10,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation are invited to join the Bequest Society. Donors may elect to receive various benefits and recognition pieces commemorating their commitment at each new recognition level, including pins, crystals, named funds, and special seating at the Rotary International Convention.  A bequest gift of at least $10,000 in your name to The Rotary Foundation creates a legacy of your generosity and compassion as you are helping many people live better lives around the world. Today there are over 18,000 Bequest Society Members worldwide.

Will you join them by leaving a gift to Rotary in your estate? Ask me to put you in contact with The Rotary Foundation’s Planned Giving team.

October is Economic and Community Development Month! By sponsoring a bicycle through World Bicycle Relief, we will certainly contribute to the community development of an area in need. There are many other ways to help. Find out more here: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/growing-local-economies
Also, October 5-11 is Rotary Alumni Reconnect Week. This means that all over the world, Rotary clubs can touch base with former participants of programs like RYLA, Youth Exchange, and more. Why not invite them to attend a few of the sessions at our District Conference on October 16-18 (all virtual)? Why not ask them if they’d help us end polio by donating to our Polio Plus Virtual Concert (October 24), and if they’d like to attend our next meeting (October 27)? They may decide to continue their Rotary journey by joining our club!

To wrap up, don’t forget that the District Conference is two weeks away – register today! Click here: https://rotary7040.com/sitepage/discon-2020/program-registration-programme-inscription
See you there!
Secretary's Thoughts

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

We had another great turnout for our September meeting this past Tuesday – 22 members plus three guests including our own District Governor Hadi, who we are always happy to see.  And he will be our very special guest at our October 27th meeting when he will be making his “official visit” to our club.

We were happy to see two of our convalescing members back again on Tuesday Nicke and Murray who are both recovering from recent surgeries – good to see you chaps in such fine form!

I was happy to attend Ariane’s first ClubRunner training session on Wednesday and in this week’s “Membership Corner” you will find a link to take you to the second session which I gather also covered valuable tips on keeping our “make ups” current on ClubRunner.  Remember that attendance at either of these sessions will count as a makeup as will tuning into the link and taking the training that way.  So many ways to count a makeup we should be able to reach a very high attendance percentage, if not an actual 100%.

Unfortunately, no further news about the Rotary Ontario Chase the Ace Lottery (sponsored by the Mississauga Club) that I mentioned last week.  Perhaps by next Sunday I will have more to report on this project.

Have a great week everyone!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Terry

President-Elect Maddie Roy

This week I dropped off more than 150 cans and a couple dozen bottles at the Beer Store. I was initially disappointed when the cashier handed over only $7.90 but that's just the beginning of a contribution to a great cause. I'm excited to see how much more I can raise through various means this Rotary year to support the foundation.

The End Polio Now Variety Benefit is fast approaching. It will be live on October 24. I will be sending an updated version of some virtual posters soon to be used to spread the word! If you are interested in another way of supporting Rotary's efforts to end polio, the Rotary Club of Ottawa Metro will be hosting a trivia night (I will provide more info next week).

Remember, the learning centre on rotary.org is full of fantastic information to demystify Rotary and bolster your knowledge about how we work and make change! The courses take about half an hour on average and can be counted as make-ups.

Have a great week!

We had some good sessions with ClubRunner this week. You can view the second session at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfcWKvj0xDc  One of the things that someone mentioned is that meetings are often closed now. If you’ve looked at the bottom of the Meetings page, you’ll see these notes:
Open Meetings can be edited and modified. The data from these meetings are not yet reflected in reports.
Closed meetings are highlighted in green, and their data is reflected in reports. Makeups can be applied to closed meetings.
In order to get the attendance data, it’s necessary to close the meetings, but you can still use them for makeups. Please do not bank makeups unless you have used up all available dates, meaning you’ve gone up to June 2021. Banked meetings do nothing for our attendance, which by the way is at 59.61% this week, quite a bit better.
I will be calling a meeting of the Membership committee soon, maybe even the 13th of this month. We need to start doing some planning for extending our membership.
