Did you read last week's bulletin?

Some people did not and were not aware of the news.

An Interact club, two new members, and five Paul Harris Fellowships! Read all about it below.

New members

Welcome to our newest members, David Wilder who transferred to us from North Renfrew and Mohamed Omar, formerly from West Ottawa. We look forward to their Meet the Member articles.

We Have an Interact Club

West Island College is now sponsored by our club. Murray is listed as the official adviser but Carol will also go there. We will need to organize some events with our Rotarians. It does help us fulfill one of our goals for the Rotary Citation.

There is nothing to stop us from sponsoring other Interact Clubs because we are not hampered by geographic location. It is also possible to have a French Interact club. If there is a high school near you that you think might be interested, contact them and contact me to see what we can get started.

Paul Harris Fellows

The Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

The honour was established in 1957 to show appreciation for contributions that support our Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant. It is indeed considered an honour for any Rotarian.

Paul Harris Recipients

It was my pleasure to announce the following Paul Harris Fellows:
Laird Coghill
Sharron Czorny
Barry Rowlands
Margaret Shibley
Yves Soumillon
Congratulations to all! You will receive your pin and certificate at a time that we can get together. There are two possible occasions coming up – the camp Sonshine clean-up on May 4, and the Foundation Walk in Kingston on May 11. Let me know which one you are attending.

Check out the India Friendship article with input from Margaret and Barry on our home page!

Relay for Life

Hi everyone, we all know someone who has or had cancer, the Relay for Life « we are bigger than cancer » is an important event that raises money and awareness for the cause. The monies go towards research and other service that help people in this period of need. We now need you to put together teams and rally together for this cause. Please help us find a cure.

Camp Cleanup

Like most of you I have been waiting for winter to go away.

When we last met, we talked about the possibility of doing a one-day project at Sonshine Cove.  The camp for individuals with special needs is 120 km north of Ottawa in Quebec.  We have been waiting for the snow to go (usually by early April, we still have several feet).  We think that by Saturday May 4th we should be able to do our spring cleanup.   This involves cleaning inside (windows, appliances etc.), outside cleaning and raking the grass, beach area -picking up things that have arrived over the winter.  Depending on the skills of those attending there could be some minor repairs.

We would spend the day, or if you want to come Friday and spend the night that can be arranged.  Let me know if you are interested and available as soon as possible.  Further planning can be done when we know who is coming. (By Len Goddard)

May is Rotary International's Youth Service Month! During this special month, Rotarians and young members of the Rotary family, including Interactors, Rotaractors, and RYLA and Rotary Youth Exchange participants, are encouraged to develop meaningful connections that last throughout the year. With our new Interact Club, what a wonderful way to start this month!

Want to get more involved in Youth Service Month but not sure how to start?
1. Plan a joint service project with Rotarians and young leaders in your community.
2. Fundraise to support initiatives that develop young leaders.

Back to the Future

I would like to have all spouses/partners consider joining our club. Seems like a great way to expand membership and help awareness.

Here’s a test: if a search warrant is executed on your home, would one find enough evidence to convict you of being a Rotarian?  If not enough evidence is found you may be a RINO (Rotarian In Name Only) !!

Having your partner/spouse to mentor would definitely help avoid our club membership becoming filled with RINOs.
Till next week...

WEEK 44 THE ROTARY FOUNDATION WHAT ARE THE SIX AREAS OF FOCUS?

The Rotary Foundation – continuing to empower Rotarians at home and abroad as we continue to focus the “good we do in the world.”

Rotary ABC’s - Club and District Support

Want to know more about making up meetings at e-clubs or how to conduct a new member induction ceremony? Maybe your club didn’t receive its semi-annual report and you want to know what to do. Rotary can seem pretty complex to new members or Rotarians who are taking on new leadership roles, but Rotary clubs can get answers to most of their questions from their Club and District Support (CDS) representative at the Secretariat.

These staff members offer guidance on RI resources and services, administrative procedures, Board policy and RI constitutional documents, and conducting Rotary business online. They also attend some club and district meetings to meet with Rotarians and provide training to incoming leaders. Find your club’s CDS representative at www.rotary.org/support or through the Secretariat office for your area.

Now available: The Rotary Basics online course

Want to test your Rotary knowledge? Need a resource for new member orientation? Rotary Basics is now an online course that introduces Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format.

In this new Learning Center course, you can read about members around the world, learn about our values and causes, watch videos, and deepen your understanding of Rotary. You can also take a quiz to test your Rotary knowledge.

The course was designed for new members, but it’s also a great refresher for other members or even an overview for non-members who want to know what Rotary is all about.
