Ottawa Meeting Date

On May 3 I need to go to Gloucester High School to talk about next year’s Guatemala trip. If possible, I would like to meet with any Ottawa area club members. I will be at Perkins, next to the St. Laurent Shopping Centre after 1:00 pm. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting.

Documents

You need to be signed in to www.d7040passport.org. All documents that you can download, such as Events, ClubRunner information, Foundation information and so on can be found here. Events with other clubs is updated weekly as new events come up, and past events expire.

Foundation Walk Pledges

In our Documents section is a copy of a multiple donor form that is partly filled. Check the new donations. Please let me know the amount that you wish to pledge. An updated form will be added to next week’s bulletin, LAST CHANCE. I will fill this out so that it can go to the Rotary Foundation and you will be credited for it. Please send donations by e-transfer to me at ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com and the amounts for our club members will stay together.

If you prefer to donate to the Rotary Foundation directly, go to https://www.rotary.org/en/donate and make a note that this is for the D7040 Foundation Walk. Also, let me know so that I can add you to the total.

Little Free Library

Have you seen pictures of Jacinthe and her little free library?

Our Causes page has been updated and the home page will be updated this week.

Notes

Minutes of our April 24 online meeting are in the Documents section. Notify Ariane if there are errors or omissions.

Foundation Walk registration – email mcmcanuck@gmail.com or email Ariane so we can register as a team. You do need to let them know by next weekend if you are attending. An updated pledge sheet is in our Documents section.

From Katie Burke re Friendship Exchange for Cornwall area - share the info with the local Passport club members re hosting and driving. We know that there will be 5 couples, that they are vegetarian (in varying degrees - some eggs and dairy, some not), our dates are July 6 to July 9 - we have to meet somewhere between Lake Placid and here on July 6 (Fri). The plan so far is to visit Upper Canada Village on July 7 (Sat) , a quick trip to Montreal on July 8 (Sun) and taking them to the airport in Montreal for their return trip on July 9.  The weather and traffic are factors of course and we have yet to get a definite on their flight time.

No checks please! Better photos tell better stories

When photographs are used, they tell better Rotary stories. More photographs are being taken today than at any other time. Photos can show the impact of your club’s work, reach a wide audience outside of Rotary, and describe the lives we change. Read the article by clicking on the title.

Ottawa Rose Day

A reminder that Ottawa Roses Day is fast approaching.  If you want to order beautiful roses in time for Mother's Day, email Kathy at kath.trim@yahoo.ca for more information. April 30th is the deadline.

Ottawa Rotarians, this is for you:

I am writing to you as Chair of the Governance Committee for The Ottawa Rotary Home. We are currently looking for five people to become members of the Board of Directors. I am attaching a "Wanted Flyer" which sets out the details of our search and ideal candidates. (Look for it in the Documents section).

#pledgetoplant

Did you know that all Rotarians have been challenged to plant one tree this year? If you want to make this happen and you're in the Ottawa area, why not join with your fellow Rotarians from Passport, Kanata Sunrise, West Ottawa, Nepean Kanata and Stittsville on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 9 to 11 a.m.  In cooperation with the City of Ottawa several hundred trees will be planted at a site in Insmill Park along Terry Fox Drive in Kanata. To help, the Air Cadets, Interactors and Rotaractors will be on hand to assist with the planting. This will be a fun event, please plan to attend.

There is no cost for this event and refreshments will be served. Both Kathy and Liliane are planning to attend, and we'd like to see at least 3 more reps from D7040 Passport come out. If you haven't done something in a while, try this!

The city will supply some shovels, but we suggest bringing your own shovel just in case.  Email Kathy at kath.trim@yahoo.ca if you want to know more. If you want to get a calendar invite or see it on a map click here.

Makeups/Attendance

Have you been keeping up marking in your makeups? Did you know there is an easier way to do it? When you sign in you get the Admin Page (two lists with links and different topics. On the right-hand side scroll down to Meeting Services and click on the second item Report Makeups. Takes you right to the page where you need to be.

Meetings up to the end of March are marked closed so that we can see attendance records, however, if you did a makeup you can still add that to a closed meeting. If you have reached the May 28 meeting, which signifies that you have done 40 makeups during the year, keep going and just bank your meetings. We still have until June 30 in this Rotary year.

From DG Sue Bellor

To date there are 6 clubs who have earned a Rotary Citation; congratulations to D7040 Passport, E-Club Premier, Lake Placid, Massena, South Nepean, and West Ottawa. There are also 5 clubs who are getting closer, having achieved 3/4 categories and 5 other clubs who have achieved 2/4 categories.
