Had the pleasure of hosting Gerry and Susan Lambert, our District Governor and his wife. They stayed at our place in Florida overnight. It was an opportunity to discuss much. Thus the topic I wish to propose is a direct result of these talks. Want details? Attend the meeting!

A New Rotary Year is Around the Corner!

Every year in January the future governors and their partners attend the International Assembly. This is a weeklong series of workshops, conferences, and the moment when the incoming International President reveals the new theme for the upcoming year.

I always look forward to finding out about the theme, and this year I was especially excited to find out about it because it will be the theme we work with during my year as president of the D7040 Passport Club. Knowing now gives us time to think about ways we can implement this theme in our actions and our monthly meetings.

So, here it goes: the theme is Rotary Opens Opportunities. I love it! Ideas came to my mind when I found out about it: how the Passport club can open opportunities for its members, for its many communities, and more. We are going to start during the summer of 2020 with sending a young woman on a short-term youth exchange (STEP) – my stepdaughter! That is truly an excellent opportunity.

Maddie's Musings

Rotary Youth Exchange enables young students to travel the world, engage with other cultures, make new friends, and develop a variety of skills. This district has a strong Rotary Youth Exchange program and our support helps enormously! There is only one fundraiser every year that helps support this program, the annual International Dinner, where raffle tickets are sold 1 for $5 and 3 for $10. The lucky winner (and 7 of their friends) will be treated to a meal of several courses cooked by the international students living in this district. The best part? The meal takes place in the comfort of the winner's home and the students take care of clean up!
