Documents

All our club documents are here. Events with other clubs are updated weekly by Yves Soumillon.

Bulletins are archived every week. You can find past bulletins on our homepage or here.

Website advertising

We need more advertisers. We do not do fundraisers unless we are working with other clubs, but advertising is so easy.

We are looking at a way to share advertisers with the 3 Cornwall area clubs. Perhaps there is something that could be done by the Ottawa area clubs. Contact me if you want the template.

Rotary ABC's

Articles were collected and published as The ABCs of Rotary. The collection provides a guide for Rotarians to the colorful history of their organization, its customs and traditions, and the current status of its global programs.

Rotary’s Wheel Emblem

A wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since our earliest days. The first design was made by Chicago Rotarian Montague Bear, an engraver who drew a simple wagon wheel, with a few lines to show dust and motion. The wheel was said to illustrate “civilization and movement.” Most of the early clubs had some form of wagon wheel on their publications and letterheads. In 1922, it was decided that all Rotary clubs should adopt a single design as the exclusive emblem of Rotarians. Thus, in 1923, the present gearwheel with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted by Rotary International.

A group of engineers advised that the gearwheel was mechanically unsound and would not work without a “keyway” in the center of the gear to attach it to a power shaft. So, the keyway was added, and the design that we now know was formally adopted as the official Rotary emblem.

The official Rotary logo was updated in 2016. Check out Identity at a Glance to learn more.

Getting Ready for our AGM

If you are interested in an executive position, let Ariane of Jacinthe know by November 30. If you are unable to attend on December 4 you need to fill out a proxy form to give the executive the ability to act on your behalf. Click on the link and follow the instructions.

To prepare, get your makeups in so that we can see what everyone is doing.

Have You Paid Your Dues?

You should have paid at least half of the $250 dues for the year if you were a member on July 1. The next quarterly payment is due on January 1. You can check you own account, but do not alter accounts page on website. That is up to David.

More Club News

We'd like to welcome Barry Rowland from St. Lazare. Barry was referred to us by the president-elect of Cataraqui-Kingston. It shows other clubs are beginning to realize our existence. More about Barry next week.

The club website has had an update. There’s a new look, a DisCon collage, and lots of pictures all over the different pages.  Recordings of meetings have been moved to a page of their own. Look under the About Us tab.

Council on Resolutions, click on link for full document.  The resolutions for the 2018 Council on Resolutions have been transmitted and published. To begin reviewing the proposed resolutions, please go to: my.rotary.org/cor/vote. Resolutions are available for all Rotarians to read.

Documents to Check

There is a document in our Documents section about how fake emails and social media accounts are targeting Rotarians. Take the time to read that article. Find out about ShelterBox and how to prepare for November, The Rotary Foundation month.

There's a letter from Barry Rassin, the President of Rotary International and the Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation, Ron Burton.

Fundraising

Yes, I know, our club does not do fundraisers. However, we often have the opportunity to work with other clubs and raise some funds for our club because we get a cut. We also get makeup credit for the time we spend.

Recent fundraisers have been in Cornwall for roses and Cornwall Sunrise for mums. Now we are getting into calendars for West Ottawa. This is by far the best deal for us because we get $10 for every calendar sold. Len Goddard is looking after members in the Ottawa area, and Ariane will look after the Cornwall area. So far, most of the Cornwall calendars have been sold. Anyone from the Montreal or Kingston area wanting calendars, let us know so we can make delivery arrangements. Next up is also the Cornwall Club with Christmas hams. If you want any, let me know.

Although not a fundraiser for us, but for Youth Now Farm, one of our causes, orders are now accepted for large free-range turkeys. Go to http://www.youthnowfarm.ca/store/p11/Turkey_-_Deposit.html to order.

Foundation Month

While Foundation donations are voluntary, I would really like you to consider making a donation in the month of November. Our Foundation chair, Curry Wood, mentioned in a recent letter to all of us that we don’t have any weekly meals to buy or weekly fees, fines or Happy Dollars. Perhaps you could consider a monthly donation to the Foundation in lieu of these expenses. If you are already making a regular gift to the Foundation it is greatly appreciated.

At the very bottom of our Documents page your will find Rotary Direct Canada or Rotary Direct USA that tell you how to go about making a regular Rotary donation.

Our club can easily receive a Foundation banner for Every Rotarian Every Year. It means that every Rotarian in the club has donated.

The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages - WEEK 20

ROTARY'S POLIO CHALLENGE

Rotary International and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced an extension of their existing fundraising partnership that could generate up to US$525 million in new money for polio eradication as the global effort to end this crippling disease enters its critical endgame phase.

Under the new agreement, announced before an audience of more than 20,000 Rotary members from 160 countries gathered in Lisbon for the humanitarian group’s annual convention, the Gates Foundation will match 2 for 1 every new dollar Rotary commits to polio eradication up to $35 million per year through 2018!

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ROTARY AND LEVERAGING YOUR GENEROSITY!

November 27 is Giving Tuesday!
