        Secretary's Thoughts

Hello fellow D7040 Passport Rotarians,

We would like to make our weekly Bulletins more informative and interesting to read – to help achieve that we need more input from our members.

Please accept this as an open invitation from you to provide us with short stories of recent Rotary experiences that you’ve had, perhaps attending another club meeting (perhaps with a photo) or participating in another club’s project (again photos would be great) or a community volunteer project.  We’re also up for notices of an interesting upcoming event.

And President-Elect Jacinthe has another great suggestion of possible Members items. Read her article below.

Hope everyone has  a good week,

Terry

January is Vocational Service Month

By Jacinthe Paillé, President-Elect

Every month in a Rotary year has a different theme or focus. In January, Rotarians celebrate Vocational Service. What does that mean? As professionals and business people, Rotarians are models to others when it comes to their profession. They can use their work skills to help their club and community.
I found an interesting article on vocational service on the District website. You can find it here:
In it, you will be able to read the Rotary Code of Conduct. It is a valuable guide for all of us. In the past, each club could not have more than one representative from each classification, but today this is no longer the case. Our own club comprises a range of professionals, making our club diverse and strong thanks to its wealth of knowledge and skills.
This month, why not share about what you do as a profession, or start a conversation with someone about what they do? It could be talking to a neighbour or perhaps your niece, who is just starting her career. You could also write a short text on what you do and send it to Terry for our club bulletin – why not?

Maddie's Musings

The first Rotary Youth Exchange orientation for outbound students from this district will be taking place at the end of the month in Cornwall. District 7040 has an extremely strong youth exchange program that we ought to be proud of! The President of Rotary International in 2005-06, Carl Wilhelm Stenhammar, so perfectly summarized the impact of this program when he said: "If all 17-year-olds had a chance to be a Rotary Youth Exchange Student, there would be no more war."

Let's do what we can to support this incredible Rotary program! The students we sponsor may just turn into our fellow Rotarians.
