Documents

You can find all our club documents here. Events with other clubs is updated weekly. Yves Soumillon is now looking after the Events section, so if you find out about something, contact him.

Bulletins are archived weekly. You can find past bulletins on our homepage or here.

Website advertising

We need more advertisers. We do not do fundraisers unless we are working with other clubs, but advertising is so easy.

We are looking at a way to share advertisers with the 3 Cornwall area clubs. Perhaps there is something that could be done by the Ottawa area clubs. Contact me if you want the template.

Stand BY me! this Christmas season

For the last 130 years The Salvation Army has helped thousands of families in Cornwall because this community of friends and partners cared about families in need.

Will you continue to work with us to meet the needs today? The kettle drives will also be in other communities. Find out where you can volunteer.

Will you give the gift of time, and together we can make a difference this Christmas?

Volunteers needed to stand at a Salvation Army kettle starting Monday, November 19th to December 24th.  For more information, please call 613.932.7515 ext.6

Rotary ABC's

Many of these short articles about Rotary were first published
in the weekly bulletin of the Rotary Club of North Stockton,
California, USA. Originally appearing in a column called
“Did Ya Know?” the pieces were prepared to share interesting
facts about Rotary International with members of the North
Stockton club. When their author, Cliff Dochterman, became RI president in 1992-93, the articles were collected and published as The ABCs of Rotary. The collection, which is periodically updated, provides a guide for Rotarians to the colorful history of their organization, its customs and traditions, and the current status of its global programs.

Room 711 — Rotary’s Birthplace

The number 711 has a very special significance for Rotary.
Room 711 of the old Unity Building, formerly located at 127 North Dearborn Street in downtown Chicago, was the
birthplace of Rotary. It was in that historic room, which was the office of engineer Gus Loehr, where Paul Harris first met with several friends to discuss his new idea of a club for professionals and businessmen. After extensive research, a few Chicago Rotarians restored the room to its 1905 authenticity. For years, Room 711 was preserved as a miniature Rotary museum by members of
the Paul Harris 711 Club, which provided funds for leasing,
maintenance, and preservation. In 1989, when the Unity Building was about to be torn down, 711 Club members carefully dismantled the landmark room and placed its contents in storage. There it stayed until 1994, when Room 711 was
recreated and located at RI World Headquarters in Evanston, where this piece of Rotary’s heritage is preserved permanently.

Meet the Member - Chris Cochrane

Chris is one of North America’s finest Video Story tellers. His videos appear regularly on GreatBigStory.com, the New York-based YouTube channel with millions of subscribers.
He started in 1972 as an intern at a TV station in Toronto. Soon he was producing & directing original TV programs. In 1976 he started a TV and video production company which grew to be among the largest in North America. He sold that business in 2003, moved to Eastern Ontario, and “semi-retired”.

Chris holds Masters’ degrees from the Wharton School and the American Film Institute plus lifetime membership in industry associations.
He joined Rotary in 2005, helping to found the 1000 Islands Club and served for years as District 7040 Chair of Public Image. He left the district to help start the eClub of Silicon Valley in California, the first eClub to use video exclusively to successfully raise funds. Believe it or not, Chris is one of our charter members. He was only with us one day before work pressures sent him back to the eClub.

Now he's back to the future in District 7040 serving as our Chair of Public Image.

Documents to Check

There is a document in our Documents section about how fake emails and social media accounts are targeting Rotarians. Take the time to read that article. Find out about ShelterBox and how to prepare for November, The Rotary Foundation month.

There's also a Q & A about polio that is very interesting reading and a call for grants in Canada to take advantage of the Canadian government matching dollars.

Club shirts

We have 6 orders for shirts, but need more in order to make this viable. They will be $45 each and will have the club logo on them. There is a woman's shirt on the left and men's on the right. Let me know what size you want.

Fundraising

Yes, I know, our club does not do fundraisers. However, we often have the opportunity to work with other clubs and raise some funds for our club because we get a cut. We also get makeup credit for the time we spend.

Recent fundraisers have been in Cornwall for roses and Cornwall Sunrise for mums. Now we are getting into calendars for West Ottawa. This is by far the best deal for us because we get $10 for every calendar sold. Len Goddard is looking after members in the Ottawa area, and Ariane will look after the Cornwall area. Anyone from the Montreal or Kingston area wanting calendars, let us know so we can make delivery arrangements. Next up is also the Cornwall Club with Christmas hams.

Although not a fundraiser for us, but for Youth Now Farm, one of our causes, orders are now accepted for large free-range turkeys. Go to http://www.youthnowfarm.ca/store/p11/Turkey_-_Deposit.html to order.

Foundation Month

While Foundation donations are voluntary, I would really like you to consider making a donation in the month of November. Our Foundation chair, Curry Wood, mentioned in a recent letter to all of us that we don’t have any weekly meals to buy or weekly fees, fines or Happy Dollars. Perhaps you could consider a monthly donation to the Foundation in lieu of these expenses. If you are already making a regular gift to the Foundation it is greatly appreciated.

At the very bottom of our Documents page your will find Rotary Direct Canada or Rotary Direct USA that tell you how to go about making a regular Rotary donation.

Rotary ABC's and The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages

Recently I found some documents that are interesting for everyone, especially new Rotarians. We will be featuring those in our bulletin from now on.

WEEK 17 (We started late in the year)

WHAT DOES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION DO WITH ITS MONEY?

The Rotary Foundation spends charitable contributions on multiple programs and grants. From the eradication of POLIO to scholarships, vocational training teams, Rotary Peace Centers, Humanitarian projects. The funds are used for programs and projects Rotarians feel passionate about. If you want detailed financial information you should check on-line at www.rotary.org and you can see how much was spent on each program as well as operating costs. I can tell you that our Foundation is ranked as one of the best. With 1.2 million Rotarians over-seeing the funds at a grassroots level I have all the confidence in the world that are funds through Rotary are in amazing hands doing amazing work here and abroad.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION SPENDS ITS MONEY IN OUR NAME TO DO GOOD WORK!
