FOUNDATION MOMENT

A Rotary Foundation Benefactor is a person who has notified The Rotary Foundation that they have made provisions in their final estate plans to Rotary for US$1,000 or more, or who has made an outright gift of US$1,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation’s Endowment. Benefactors receive a certificate and insignia to wear with a Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin. They are listed in the Benefactor Report and identified in the Club Recognition Summary.

Clubs with 100% member support of Rotary’s Endowment are eligible to request a Rotary’s Promise Club electronic certificate. Qualifying support may be a commitment for a future gift to The Rotary Foundation in an estate plan or an outright gift of $1,000 or more to the Endowment.

A US$1,000 gift to The Rotary Foundation creates a legacy of helping people live better lives around the world. Today there are over 100,000 Benefactors worldwide.

Will you join them by making a gift of $1,000 to Rotary’s Endowment or by leaving a gift to Rotary in your estate?

Happpy Thanksgiving, everyone! I am thankful for having the privilege of leading this fantastic Rotary Club this year. Thank you for your trust and collaboaration!

7040 District Conference.  It’s almost here, it’s online and it’s free! It is your last chance to register for one or more sessions. I think there is something for everyone. Check it out! Click here: https://rotary7040.com/sitepage/discon-2020/program-registration-programme-inscription And since it is happening online, why not invite someone to attend one of the events? It could give this person a taste of what Rotary is and does.

A Rotarian Recognized. Many of you may read the Time Magazine, either on a regular basis or once in a while. I always enjoy reading about the Time 100, which is an annual list of 100 people from all corners of the world who have had an impact on our lives. This year, a Rotarian was named one of Time’s most influential people for his contribution to eradicating polio. You can read more about it here: https://www.rotary.org/en/nigerian-physician-dr-tunji-funsho-named-one-time%E2%80%99s-most-influential-people-world We are “this close” to eradicating polio, and we can feel proud that Rotary has had a key role to play in this task.

And talking about polio...we now have a link to our Polio Plus Virtual Concert! Click here https://rcwo.org/page/polio to access the 30-minute event on Saturday, October 24, 7:00pm EDT – mark your calendars! Congrats to all of those involved in getting this done!
Secretary's Thoughts

Hello to all Passport Rotarians and Friends who are on our distribution list and a Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend and that your weather, wherever you are, has been as pleasant as Mehrun and I have been experiencing here in South Frontenac Township.  The temperatures have been a bit on the cool side (frost warnings last night), but the days have been beautifully sunny and fall colours are great although still not at their peak.

The news this past week has not been great so far as the Pandemic goes with huge spikes in reported new cases in both Ontario and Quebec and in several other parts of Canada including Alberta.  Hopefully, this news did not have a direct adverse effect on your celebration plans.  Let’s hope that folks have been following the advice of our health experts closely and we can start to flatten the curve on this second wave sweeping over us.

President Jacinthe has already highlighted our District 7040 Conference coming up next weekend – October 16-18 and included a link to register if you haven’t already.  This is our first virtual District Conference and it promises to be an event we’ll all be talking about for some time.

She also highlighted our virtual Polio Plus Concert coming up on October 24th at 7:00PM Eastern time and provided us all with a link to that special event as well.  This is going to be an outstanding concert and we hope that it will be well attended with lots of donations to the RI End Polio Campaign – we are so close!  Thanks to a lot of great work and planning carried out under the leadership of Passport Club Rotarian Brian Foster and Past Pres Chris Cochrane (to name must two) as well as folks from West Ottawa under Rtn. Graeme Fraser's leadership and many other Rotarians have also been pitching in from other parts of our District including Montreal,  Plattsburg NY and beyond.  There will be some excellent performers as befits a worthy benefit event such as this and we can all be very proud that that this is an idea that started right here in our Passport Club.

That’s it for now – see you at all at the D7040 DisCon this coming weekend!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Terry

President-Elect Maddie Roy

Editors Note Maddie will be back in this spot again next week!

It's working! Our attendance is going up. This week's attendance is at 60.6%. It shows that you are adding your activities. Just a reminder that closed meetings are highlighted in green, and their data is reflected in reports. Makeups can be applied to closed meetings.

Please do not bank makeups unless you have used up all available dates, meaning you’ve gone up to June 2021. Banked meetings do nothing for our attendance.

With all the Zoom meetings that we are doing now, it's really important to mark everything in as soon as it happens. Any registration for any Zoom event is not reflected through ClubRunner. Only you, and the people in the meeting with you know that you participated until you put in your makeup.

This bulletin is going to some extra people this week who have shown an interest in our club but have not committed to membership yet.

Margaret pointed out something interesting in a Zoom conversation that we had this week. In your Commitments, you will see committees for our club that you may be a part of, and district committees that you are a part of. If you belong on any other committee for a club, that data does not transfer.

This week I received a phone call from Phoenix, Arizona. The person on the other end explained that her club is interested in transitioning to a Passport Club. We had an interesting conversation about how we do things, and I gave her the website URL of course. It's always the first thing that you should start with for anyone who contact you about our club.

There will be a meeting of the Membership committee on the 13th of this month, see Events to the left for the Zoom link. We need to start doing some planning for extending our membership. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to join in also.
