Rotary is dedicated to seven areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
Saving mothers and children: Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
Supporting education: More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
Growing local economies: We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
Supporting the environment: As our newest appointed area of focus in 2020, Rotary clubs can begin applying for environment-related global grant projects beginning 1 July 2021.
Which cause are you most passionate about?
Thank you to everyone who took part in my challenge.
December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month!
Dear Members,
This Tuesday, we will hold our Annual General Meeting at 4:00pm EDT. I am looking forward to seeing all of you there as we elect the incoming officers for the next Rotary year. A Rotary Club is a team effort, and everyone's contribution to it matters.
Considering what is happening in the world right now, the theme of the month of December, disease prevention and treatment, is especially appropropriate. For those who usually celebrate Christmas, it will look and feel quite different. In this difficult time, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for being part of this family of Rotary - the bond we share through connections and service is truly one of a kind! You are in my thoughts every day.
This bulletin will come back next week for its last 2020 issue. We shall return on January 3rd, 2021. Here's to a new year of hope - and new beginnings!
Secretary's Thoughts
Hello fellow D7040 Passport Club members and friends
First I would like to acknowledge Ariane's weekly efforts to keep us up to date on "Membership Matters" which are very informative and helpful as well as the banners she has been including in recent issues including the festive banner that you see in today's Bulletin. Many thanks, Ariane.
Also, it is a pleasure this week to welcome back our DG Hadi's Foundation Moment to our Bulletin Pages. We had a great Foundation Month in November and I hope that you enjoyed the different articles contributed each week during the month by the members of our Foundation Committee.
And coming up on Tuesday at 4:00 PM will be our Annual General Meeting for the 2018-19 Rotary Year. This is where we approve the annual Financial statements to June 30th, 2019 and also take a moment to recount the highlights of Past President Chris's year. It was a very productive year and another important part of the AGM will be electing the Officers for our next Rotary Year 2021-22 under President Elect Maddie's leadership.
Finally, one of the more important developments this year during President Jacinthe's year has been her encouragement and support for our Passport Club membership to become more engaged in Fellowship opportunities and to help strengthen our relationships with each other in order to help build an even stronger club. This is a process started some weeks ago by Margaret Shibley and Brian Foster and Margaret has been giving us timely encouragements in this regard which continues this week with her message below in this issue.
Thank you everyone that has been providing feeback and ideas. The Board is very much looking forward to receiving the document that Margaret is describing here which we hope will help to inform us all on our next important steps with this endeavour.
Looking forward to seeing you all an hour earlier than usual this Tuesday at 4:00 PM Eastern time. We hope this earlier time will be easier on our members in Europe and Egypt.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Terry
President-Elect Maddie Roy
The next two weeks are important for our Rotary Club - we'll be holding our AGM and our second online social! I would like to thank everyone who has committed to taking a position within the club next year, but more importantly, I would like to commend all of our members for making fellowship and community an integral part of the experience in our club.
Yesterday, a few of us in Cornwall volunteered with the Salvation Army. They are still in need of volunteers for the remainder of the month for the Christmas Kettle Bell campaign. If you have the time, reach out to your local Salvation Army representatives to see if you can help!
See you on Tuesday!

CREATING AND STRENGTHENING RELATIONS
We now have a document ready to go to the Board for their consideration. The debate after our last meeting (27 Nov) was thorough and added detail, caveats, and new thoughts to the list of opportunities we were discussing. Your subsequent contributions, whether by email or in conversation, have continued to strengthen the document. Now - if you’ve had a really good (or even a little good) idea since we last asked for you input, or you remain concerned about something, or you have some information you’d like to direct us to - please get in touch with me this week. The document I have ready for the Board contains EVERY idea, concern, positive or negative response I have received. Don’t let the Passport Club miss out on your contribution!
I am thrilled that the desire to get to know each other better, to be mutually supportive, to laugh together is so evident. Thank you for your honest and thoughtful input. I am grateful for the solid and considered support of the Board to this Rotary Newbie as we seek to grow and prosper. 2021, here we come!
