The Early Bird deadline for DisCon 2022 has been extended to December 31, 2021. Please encourage club members to register before that date.
If you did not register for the Friday night dinner, there is still time. You need to scroll to the bottom of the packages page to find the add-on. Dinner will be at the conference venue.
The astrologer’s second prediction had come true – the CMA designation was the start of the yearning for continuous learning and improvement. Since then, I acquired certification in Photography, Graphic Arts Design and Ikebana. I learnt French for my job and now am learning Spanish for fun. Besides learning, I love travelling, cooking, solving puzzles and socializing.
In Canada, I enjoyed a successful career in private and public sectors. I have always volunteered with charitable organizations throughout my career, having been taught from a very young age the values of giving.
My Rotary journey started with my husband, Pardeep Ahluwalia. He had joined RC West Ottawa and was president of his club. I had no intention of joining Rotary as I was already enjoying what Rotary had to offer without being a Rotarian.
In my short involvement as a Rotary spouse, I participated in District conference, hosted the Russian Friendship exchange, attended the RI conference in Hamburg, and visited Russia through the friendship exchange.
The reason I ended up joining Rotary was that I was approached to be on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Rotary Home, for which I had to become a Rotarian. So, in 2019, I became a Rotarian. Since then, I have been fully immersed in Rotary activities and giving. I am a PHF+2. I am now involved with the International Travel and Hosting Fellowship (ITHF) and soon to be the Treasurer for RCWO Charitable Foundation.
I have got a lot from Rotary as well. Rotary has given me the unique opportunity to satisfy my passion of travelling not as a tourist but really experiencing the culture and flavor of the places through local connections. I have fond memories of travelling to Russia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Colombia and making lasting friendships in these places. Further, through the virtual travels that ITHF hosts, I have made connections with Rotarians in many other countries, and I am hoping to visit them sometime.
While I have always believed that people all over the world are inherently the same and that there is goodness to be found everywhere, the Rotary family has truly driven this home.

Coffee With a Rotarian
The list for December is now out and can be found
here. For those who are not used to this, here is the introduction:
The concept of “Coffee with a Rotarian” was developed elsewhere as a means for increasing socialization, fellowship, or connectivity, or any one of several terms – in reality, it is one way that we as a club can get to know others. The list will rotate by one each month.
