Are you adding your Makeups?

In order to get your 40 credits (see Participation Recognition), you will need to go according to the meetings listed. Do not bank meetings, just keep adding them to the next available date for you, even if it is in the future. I know that for those of you who have been Rotarians before that seems strange, but then we are not a usual club, so we do our attendance credits in an unusual way.

Do record your makeups regularly. The DG does check to see how we are doing for our participation, so mark them in.

Ottawa Area Meeting

Len Goddard is organizing a face to face meeting of members in the Greater Ottawa area on February 5, KS on the Keys, 1024 Daze Street (East off Bank across from the Keys).  Induction of new members and reception of name tags are all on the agenda. To find out more about the agenda, click on the Event title on the left.

Our online meeting is on Jan. 29. An agenda is posted in Documents. Contact me if there are additions to the agenda. For those who have not attended an online meeting before, you will receive a reminder tomorrow, with the link. All you do is click on it and let GoToMeeting take over.

One of the items that we will be discussing is the possibility of doing Short Term Youth Exchange. Go to our district website to find out more information about Short Term exchanges.

Rotary ABC's - Inclusion of Women in Rotary

Until 1989, the Constitution and Bylaws of Rotary International stated that Rotary club membership was for males only. In 1978, the Rotary Club of Duarte, California, USA, invited three women to become members. The RI Board withdrew the charter of that club for violation of the RI Constitution. The club brought suit against RI claiming a violation of a state civil rights law that prohibits discrimination of any form in business establishments or public accommodations. The appeals court and the California Supreme Court supported the Duarte position that Rotary could not remove the club’s charter merely for inducting women into the club. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the California court, maintaining that Rotary clubs do have a “business purpose” and are in some way’s public-type organizations. This action in 1987 allowed women to become Rotarians in any jurisdiction having similar “public accommodation” statutes.

The 1989 Council on Legislation changed the RI Constitution with a vote to eliminate the “male only” provision for all of Rotary. Since that time, women have become members and leaders of clubs and districts throughout the world. January 23 was the anniversary date of this decision.

The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: Week 31

WHAT IS A ROTARY FOUNDATION GLOBAL GRANT FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING?  Established in 1965-66, the Group Study Exchange Program was an educational program that promoted international understanding through organized travel and personal contact.  The program evolved as Rotary updated its grant model and placed this activity within global grants. Vocational training under global grants builds skills within a community by offering local training or by supporting groups of professionals traveling abroad for rigorous study in their profession or to teach local professionals about a particular field. This type of training is often effective in conjunction with a humanitarian project.

YOU CAN VOLUNTEER TO BE A VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAM LEADER OR NOMINATE A NON-ROTARIAN VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAM MEMBER - WHICH WILL IT BE?
