July Issue of The Rotarian. I’ve said it to you before: I love reading, and I still love paper magazines. For more than twenty years, I’ve been getting The Rotarian magazine in my mailbox and I go through each issue! I have also responded to some articles, shared texts with my students, and been interviewed for an article on our club. I am also on the Advisory Board for Rotary Canada, which is a thin insert published 4 times a year along with the Rotarian. My responsibility is to look for articles in French. I love doing this! In the July issue, you will find an article by Olivier Frasson, a Rotaractor in Montreal. If you have any leads from French-speaking clubs for me, let me know!

The July 2020 issue of The Rotarian features many interesting articles, but here are 2 of them that I believe many of you will enjoy: Get to know ow new Rotary International President, Holger Knaack, on pages 28-38. He looks like the kind of man you want to be friends with! And on page 57, you can find out more about environmental projects from the Communications director of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG), Karen K.-Hands. Enjoy!

I am still of the opinion that there is nothing like reading on paper, so every month, I receive the magazine in my mailbox. But I also like to share articles with my students, so for that, I go online. You can find the most recent issues here https://my.rotary.org/en/news-media/magazines/rotarian?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIut_xmoyg6gIV6giICR2U4gu0EAAYASAAEgJQsfD_BwE and you can search the archives for past issues here https://books.google.ca/books?id=vzQEAAAAMBAJ&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=1&atm_aiy=2010#all_issues_anchor
Happy reading!
             Secretary's Thoughts
Hello again to my fellow D7040 Passport Club Rotarians

In my new role as Club Bulletin Editor working alongside President Jacinthe and President-Elect Maddie, I want to take a bit of a quick peek behind the curtain to talk about putting our weekly Bulletin together.  First off, this is all of our Bulletins, not just mine, Jacinthe’s and Maddie’s.  I want everyone to feel free to contribute stories (hopefully not too long) as well as photos that will help illustrate the kinds of things we are doing as a club and the kind of reach that we are having through our members, not just here in our own home District 7040, but elsewhere in the world including Sweden, Malta and France where our members are residing as well as Alberta.  So please feel free to send along your blurbs and photos – to my email address: terry@akudlik.ca preferably by Saturday night each week by 6:00P Eastern time.  If you happen to forget until Sunday afternoon, don’t fret send your contributions along anyway and I will try and fit them in.   Just don’t be shy – and Committee Chairs and others who are leading club projects, please send me your contributions, announcements or special information blurbs.  These will also be most welcome!

Have a great week everyone, yours in Rotary,

Terry

Once again, this important message from Rotary International continues to be timely - we need to avoid any travel that is not necessary to help keep the number of new cases down:

President-Elect Maddie Roy

Welcome to the new Rotary year. Another big thank you to Chris and everybody else that made last year's success possible. I'm eager to see what the new year brings!

As we all know, being based online has been advantageous to us during this transition period. A lot of Rotary programs have been adapting, some with great difficulty. One that is near and dear to me, Rotary Youth Exchange, is experimenting with online cultural exchanges. These give young people the opportunity to connect with people and cultures that are far removed from their own - the benefits of an exchange without the cost of travel insurance, if you will. Rotary International is enthusiastic about this endeavour and district 3131 has already started initiating students in the program!

This seems like it will be a great way to promote Rotary and promote international fellowship and I'm very excited to see where this program goes. If anybody would like more information, let me know!

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

More about Makeups

By Ariane Carriere, Membership Chair

Makeup dates have been loaded on up to the end of December. The rest will follow soon. When you first sign in, you'll see a new admin menu, but don't panic, you can still go to the classic admin menu that we used to have.

When we have an online meeting, from now on I will do the attendance from the meeting print screen. This will save you some entries for the rest of the year. I have identified our club meetings, so try not to use those for makeups.

For those of you who were able to bank meetings last year, sorry to tell you this but you cannot carry them forward. The dates that you use should be in this Rotary year. If you have forgotten how to add your makeups, there is a link on the left hand side of the website home page that you can use to remind you.

Also, a new feature on the left hand side of the home page is a Payments link. Our e-transfer address is there as well as a PayPal link. I have used this several times already for people who want to make a donation for masks. Yes, I'm still sewing as many as before.
