District Governor's Foundation Moment

Rotary Champions of Girls' Empowerment
Six Rotary members were honoured in March as People of Action: Champions of Girls' Empowerment during Rotary Day with UNICEF in New York City. This distinction recognizes the honourees' commitment to improving girls' access to education, health, sanitation, and hygiene resources and their work to create environments where girls can flourish. Empowering Girls is one of RI President Shekhar Mehta's key initiatives, and he is encouraging clubs and districts to make it a focus of their service projects this year.
Momtaz Chowdhury from Bangladesh, Mildred Fragante from the Philippines, Elaine Ruiz from Brazil, Srinidhi S U from India, Lydiah Njoroge from Kenya, and Motalib Weijters from The Netherlands are working every day to create environments where girls can flourish.

June is Rotary Fellowships month.

We are less than one month away from a new Rotary year, and one that will prove to be very exciting! For those of you in and around Canada's capital, the opportunity to meet with incoming President Jennifer Jones and her Rotary entourage is fast approaching. Click here to read about her upcoming trip to District 7040.

The monthly meeting of the district's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is happening on June 20th at 7 pm EDT. Click here for more information about connecting via Zoom!

Those of you in the Kingston area may be interested in 'Forest Therapy' at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation on June 23rd. Read more here!

See you on Tuesday,

Maddie

President Elect

Are you visiting other Rotary Clubs?
We know you are visiting and possibly pitching in on local projects with Rotarians close to your home. That’s great! In fact, it’s one of the possibilities that makes the Passport Club special. We’d really like to share that with you! To learn from each other and to acknowledge your efforts.

Next time you visit or participate in a project, take a photo, write down a few lines – and send them to Bulletin Editor & Secretary Chris Cochrane so he can drop it into the Bulletin.

I’ll start ....

9 June 2022

The Rotary Club of Kemptville hosted North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford for a presentation and public discussion about the future use of surplus agricultural lands from the former Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology. The historic significance of this College to Eastern Canada (founded in 1917) is significant, and its presence has affected the social and economic development of the surrounding community profoundly. The availability of these lands for use by the community presents many short- and long-term opportunities. The conversation was both informed and optimistic.

The after-meeting treats from the local bakery (founded in the late 1800’s and still operated by the same family) were pretty fine too!
