Help me welcome our newest club members, who joined our club late June/July 1st:
Rick Conney (Jay, NY): Although he's been a Rotarian since 1995, Rick just joined our club. He is involved in the Planning Committee of the 2020 District Conference. In online meetings, I have seen some beautiful dogs sitting quietly next to him. Welcome, Rick!
Liz Pauksens (Brockville, ON): After watching her husband Chris in action as president last year, Liz decided to become a Rotarian as well. She is a semi-retired Operating Room Registered Nurse with 50 years experience. Welcome, Liz!
Nicke Saléns (Sweden): Nicke joined Rotary in the mid-eighties, and was District Governor in 2015-16. He was involved in his Rotary zone (western part of Sweden). With his wealth of Rotary knowledge, he is a great addition to our club. Välkommen, Nicke!
Guy Kurkjian (Malta): Guy celebrated 10 years in Rotary last May, and joined our club last June. He lives in Gozo, Malta: if you have a chance to Google this, the images will take your breath away! Bienvenue, Guy!
Colin Lyle (from the UK, now lives in France): There is a lot to write about Colin’s “full and happy life”, as he wrote to me, but I will keep it brief for now. Having worked in London, Zaïre and Washington, DC, he now calls France home as a retired accountant/financial manager/consultant. He and his wife have a combined four children and six grandchildren, who live around the world. He was president of his Rotary club in 2017-18, and has attended many international conventions. Welcome, Colin!
I would like to invite these new members to go on the club website and write a short biography of themselves, so we can get to know them better! For Membership and New Club Development Month (August), let us all try to think of other qualified people who could join our club. On August 11, we will have our first Online Social of the 2020-21 year – why not invite your neighbour, friend, sister, or spouse to attend?
Secretary's Thoughts
Another word about reporting make ups in ClubRunner.
Our Membership Chair – Ariane, has been talking about makeups in the past couple of issues of our Bulletin, so this is not a new subject. While we only meet officially as a club the last Tuesday of each month, we are still expected to report our make-ups for the other Tuesdays, and we have a goal of 100% attendance for every member.
Ariane has already set up all the meeting dates in Club Runner – essentially every Tuesday throughout the Rotary year. Please note if you were in attendance at a regular club Zoom meeting, the last Tuesday of a particular month your attendance will be automatically recorded by our Membership Chair, Ariane, so no need to do that. You just need to account for all the other Tuesdays by reporting your make ups. And there are lots of ways to do that. You can attend a meeting of another Rotary Club, report a voluntary community service activity that you completed, take some training, attend a Rotary International event or training session etc. etc.

If you need help with navigating ClubRunner to make sure your makeups are properly reported just ask, your Secretary or Membership Chair Ariane. We want to see 100 % attendance from every Passport Club member this year.

We are now in Stage Three of re-opening our economy in most of Ontario, but it is still important to remain cautious and stay safe. Once again, this important message from Rotary International continues to be timely:

I would first like to take the opportunity to welcome our new members!
It's wonderful to see our club growing and evolving. We all bring different skills to the table - enthusiasm being one of them! If there is something that you are passionate about or interested in, there is a way to incorporate it into your work as a Rotarian. This Rotary year we should all make a personal goal to engage with Rotary in a way that is new and exciting to us. It could be starting a new local or international project, getting involved with a committee, or even just engaging on social media to expand the scope of our club and of Rotary.
Our first online social event on August 11 is a great opportunity to communicate with other Rotarians, something which always proves to inspire! See you then :)
