Rotary Voices – A Rotaractor's Story Leaving Ukraine
As Rotaract representative Iryna Bushmina was in the car en route to Vienna from her home country of Ukraine, she had the idea to mobilize ERIC - Rotaract Europe.
Now her team of about 150 workers are working in four directions to provide aid to cities within Ukraine by:
Distributing truthful information about the situation in Ukraine.
Finding accommodations and hosts for Ukrainians in flight.
Spring has sprung (said with cautious optimism...) and that means that the flowers are beginning to bloom and we can begin to come out of hibernation. Over the weekend, the Rotary Youth Exchange committee welcomed students to an in-person orientation for the first time in two years! On a much larger scale, our District Conference will be happening in May, welcoming Rotarians to Ottawa for in-person participation, while making sure that we can all join in online too! There are lots of opportunities for fellowship and service coming up in our communities - please keep us in the loop with what you are up to, and send any updates to Secretary Chris if you would like to be featured in the bulletin.
The District's monthly Membership Committee meeting will be happening on Tuesday, March 29 at 7 pm EDT. Click here for the Zoom link, all are welcome to join.
I am just as excited as the next Rotarian to hear more from Rotary International President-Elect Jennifer Jones, and an article in the March edition of Rotary magazine provided. Her vision and mission statement - Imagine - resonate strongly with our club as we continue to imagine what we as a Rotary club can provide in this big Rotary family.
This Tuesday we will be having a special meeting within our business meeting in order to vote on the bylaws. This is a friendly reminder to please mark it in your calendars as an important one! An agenda and a copy of the bylaws being voted on will be sent out prior to the meeting, but we can't get far without enough of us on Zoom.
Have a great week and see you on Tuesday,
Maddie
From the President-Elect
We have had a lot of discussion, thought, and advice on the revisions to the Passport Club Bylaws that we will be voting on this Tuesday. Your attendance and your vote are important. According to our bylaws, there must be a quorum (50 per cent) present for a vote to take place, and two-thirds (2/3) of the votes must support the change.
Today you will receive an annotated copy of the revised bylaw document, which indicates all deletions and new wording. Many of these new wordings are in response to suggestions and opinions gathered at our 22 Feb meeting. Paul Elsley will again be moderating the vote.
Please check all updated information for the District Conference on the district website, www.rotary7040.com, information box top left corner.
Responding to
the Crisis in the Ukraine
In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions.
Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund in support of Ukraine can be made here. All funds need to be received into the Disaster Response Fund by 30 April 2022 in order to qualify for use in support of the Ukrainian relief efforts.
Although the Disaster Response Fund will be the main avenue for Rotary Foundation support, Rotary and Rotaract clubs are also encouraged to create their own responses to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
