Now that mandatory isolation is finished for myself and LadyLiz, let freedom ring! Never thought I'd get excited about being able to do my own shopping.
Our Club Secretary Terry Forth will be sending a notice by April 17th to give you the required time to read and decide about changes to our Club bylaws. It's the rules we govern ourselves by so it's important you attend the meeting online on April 28 to vote.
Why not invite a friend to attend the online meeting too?
It's a great way to get involved and your guest might want to join us.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter weekend.
Please stay safe. Stay home as much as possible.
Please keep physical distancing and washing your hands.
Till next week ...
Please watch for an official Ten Day Notice - coming this week.
Ariane has reminded us that until the proposed Bylaws are passed we are still operating under our current By Laws which call for a ten day notice of any proposed Bylaw amendments.
As a result please ignore our note last week and look for the ten day notice by April 17th this coming week. The final vote will take place online at our meeting April 28th beginning at 5:00 PM.
As we mentioned last week most of the proposed amendment members will already have seen and these amendments are required to bring our Bylaws in line with RI requirement.
We will require at least 50% of our total membership to be present at the meeting and at least two thirds of that number must vote in favour of the amendments in order that they may be approved.
Secretary's Thoughts
Hello, I hope and trust that everyone is enjoying a pleasant Easter holiday weekend and that you are using the time to reach out by Zoom, Skype or FaceTime to family and friends.
As noted above for consideration of the proposed Bylaw changes we are still functioning under our existing Bylaws which are very specific as to the procedures we must follow. Here is an extract from Article 16:
Article 16 Amendments
These bylaws may be amended, from time to time, by an electronic vote of the Membership with more than 50% of members voting and an approval by two-thirds of those voting, provided that notice of such proposed amendment shall have been duly made available to each member at least ten (10) days before such electronic vote. No amendment or addition to these bylaws can be made which is not in harmony with the constitution and bylaws of RI.
Please watch for the official notice and the proposed amendments coming by Friday, April 17th..
Once again, here's an important message from Rotary International:
Yours in Rotary,
Terry
April is Magazine Month (Part 2)
By Jacinthe Paillé
President-Elect 2020-21
Happy Easter, everyone! Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying this moment.
You can start with the January 1911 issue of The National Rotarian, which was the first name of the magazine, where Paul Harris himself wrote an article entitled “Rational Rotarianism.” Ten years ago, in the April 2010 issue, you can find a ‘Rotarian Conversation’ with Greg Mortenson, author of the well-known novel Three Cups of Tea.
(Editor's note - Some of you may recall seeing Greg at the 2010 Rotary International Convention which District 7040 hosted in Montreal.)
