We've Done it Again!

Our club has qualified for a Rotary citation for the second year in a row. We've met the criteria in all areas. The final item was the entry of our grant for planning for Youth Now on Rotary Showcase. Check it out here https://map.rotary.org/en/project/pages/project_detail.aspx?guid=52662370-CACB-4B90-910F-5A9F538596FA

Make-ups

Finish the Rotary year by adding in your make-ups! Dates for July and August 2019 have now been added, but do not use them if you have any unused dates in 2018-19. It does not matter if a meeting date is marked as closed, it can still be used. At the end of June we will be able to tell what our final average was. Right now we are at 55%. At the end of June last year, our activity rate was 60%. Some did more than others, but every activity counts.

Inter-club Dinner in Cornwall

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 12, for a supper club meeting in the Rotary Tea Room at the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge, Cornwall beginning at 5:30pm. All Rotarians are welcome. Please spread the news to your members, their spouses, friends and potential members that can’t make it to our usual meeting times.

Agenda is now finalized and posted in Documents. Theme is orange to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21st)

Room capacity is 55 guests. We have 5 going from our club, but there's always room for more.

From PE Chris

Do you have your personal Rotary goals for the coming year written down? Those goals then placed where you can see them every day?  Out of sight can mean out of mind. I suggest writing in short, simple, phrases with a date for doing attached. You’ll be amazed how much you can accomplish if you apply this suggestion.

Committee Membership

Next year's goals requests that we appoint a committee of at least 5 members each for Membership and for The Rotary Foundation. Keep in mind that most meetings will be online. Which Committee do you want to join? Membership 5, The Rotary Foundation 3, Neither 2

Would the people who want to be on the Membership Committee contact me, and those for the Foundation can contact Jacinthe?

WEEK 50 THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

WHAT KIND OF ROTARY SERVICE AWARDS ARE THERE?
District Service Award recognizes Rotarians at the District level who serve humanity through Rotary Foundation programs and are awarded by the District Governor.

Citation for Meritorious Service recognizes one Rotarian from each District during each Rotary year for demonstrated active service to the Rotary Foundation.

Distinguished Service Award is The Rotary Foundation’s highest service award and recognizes the recipients’ exemplary service to The Rotary Foundation which must extend beyond the District level and over an extended period of time.

YOU CAN HELP NOMINATE ANY WORTHY ROTARIAN FOR ANY OF THESE AWARDS.

Rotary ABC’s - The International Assembly

The International Assembly is held each year before 15 February to prepare district governors-elect from around the world for the office they will assume on 1 July. Accompanied by their spouses, the 535 incoming governors join a host of experienced Rotarian leaders for a week of training and motivational sessions. At the assembly, they meet the special Rotarian who will serve as RI president during their year as governors, and they learn the RI theme for the coming year, around which they will build their district’s activities.

The first International Assembly was held in Chicago in 1919. Since then, assemblies have been held throughout the United States: Lake Placid, New York; Kansas City, Missouri; Boca Raton, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Anaheim, California; and, most recently, San Diego, California. In 2020 the International Assembly will be in Orlando, Florida. But regardless of the venue, the message on the sign above the plenary hall remains unchanged: “Enter to learn . . . go forth to serve.”

Request for volunteers

By Jennifer Wyatt
I am on the board of the Ottawa Bach Choir and we are looking for volunteers. I wondered if this was something the Rotary Club may be interested in doing.

Here is the info for the calendar.
Dates for next season's concerts are:
Sunday, December 1, 2019
Saturday, March 7, 2020
Saturday, May 2, 2020

Concerts are at 8 pm (venues TBA), so Front of House volunteers should plan to show up at 6:30 pm, dressed in formal business attire (black, if possible). We need people to help out with logistics (setting up Reserved signs), managing the Reserved areas, greeting people, handing out programs, and helping to take tickets and CD orders. We will provide on-the-spot training. Contact Jennifer if you are able to volunteer. This item will be moved into Documents next week.
