President's Message

Due to concerns over the Coronavirus,
most Rotary Clubs
have cancelled all in-person meetings

Yours truly has been asked
to speak at 3 separate Florida Rotary Clubs
once their meetings are resumed.
The topic: how to morph a standard club
into one with an viable online meeting component.

Being an online only eClub,
we are being contacted
by several Rotarians overseas
seriously asking to join our club.
At least one applicant is in the cue
having contacted myself this past week.
His application will be considered soon.

I believe we are being contacted
because of our policy of doing
rather than meeting.
Many Rotarians are tired of endless meetings.
Many prefer to do, rather than talk.

Thus we welcome
Guy Kurkjian in London, UK.
He's our newest member.
This means we have members now
in 4 countries.
Let's keep growing!

Keep washing your hands
and avoid unnecessary physical contact.
This pandemic will pass quickly
as long as you use common sense
and follow the recommended protocols.

President-elect Jacinthe,
and our Club Secretary Terry,
have words on this subject below.

Till next week ...
Repeat of Notice to All Members - Re Proposed Bylaw changes for consideration at our March 31, 2020 Online Club Meeting

from Ariane..

draft revision of the bylaws can be found in Documents on ClubRunner. We we have been reminded  that all clubs need to update their bylaws according to the 2019 COL. The generic club bylaws that RI put out after the 2019 Council on Legislation (COL) are also in Documents. I tried to model the draft revision after that. Whenever possible, I have highlighted the changes, but if something was shortened that will not show.

The election of the Board is different and the method of electing new members is shortened.

According to RI, we need to give 21 days notice for amendments, so that is why our initial notice went out as part of last week's Bulletin. Today is just a reminder.

Please read the revised version and compare to the RI version if you wish. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com .

        Secretary's Thoughts

                  COVID 19 impact

Well we have all been bombarded with information during the past week of what has now been characterized by the World Health Organization as a Coronavirus Pandemic.

We have also been receiving government advisories on what to do to promote our own personal safety and health which includes encouraging no non-essential travel, as well as school closures and meeting cancellations or postponements.  This is having an immediate impact on our upcoming District PETs and District Training Assembly scheduled for this coming weekend.  Steps are being taken to conduct as much of this training activity on line over the next few weeks.

Upcoming Student Exchange trips may also be affected.  If you may be affected by any of these changes please watch for further announcements.

Here's an important message from Rotary International:

Yours in Rotary,

Terry

           Jacinthe's Message
            for March 15, 2020

By Jacinthe Paillé, President-Elect

Hello everyone! I hope this message is finding everyone healthy and safe. These are uncertain times but we can support each other online. I feel like our club is truly the best way to meet right now!

As you may have heard, the Presidents-Elect training (PETS), the Foundation Dinner and the District Training Assembly have all been cancelled next weekend. The presidents-elect will get an online training, and workshops planned at DTA will possibly be given online or at the District Conference. I have already started looking at goals for next year and will share them with you soon.

For now, I would like to keep our June 20 changeover as is, but since things will quite likely change in the next weeks and months, I will keep you posted. Let’s all ‘meet’ online at our next monthly meeting on March 31st so we can connect with each other. See you soon!

Thanks,
Jacinthe

Maddie's Musings

There is a great deal of uncertainty looming over everything that we do right now, including how Rotary matters are to proceed. The upcoming PETS meeting has been moved online and the Youth Exchange orientation, which was to take place at the same time and location, is being put on hold. I would like to take this opportunity to commend all of those who are responsible for planning and facilitating these events, who have put an enormous amount of effort into the original events as well as the modified plans.

The best thing that we can do right now is to take all the official recommended precautions. Stay at home, wash your hands, and avoid loved ones who are elderly or immunocompromised. For those who are able to work from home, consider buying gift cards from your favourite small and locally-owned businesses in order to help them mitigate some of the financial stress they are dealing with during this crisis. We will get through this, one day at a time, as long as we continue to live by the principle of "Service Above Self".
