Rotary is dedicated to seven areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
Saving mothers and children: Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
Supporting education: More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
Growing local economies: We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
Supporting the environment: As our newest appointed area of focus in 2020, Rotary clubs can begin applying for environment-related global grant projects beginning 1 July 2021.
Which cause are you most passionate about?
Thank you to everyone who took part in my challenge.
December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month
Dear club members,
As we are nearing the end of 2020, many of us may feel relieved – relieved that we are (hopefully) leaving bad times behind and that 2021 will bring health and joy! No matter what you celebrate, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you some quiet time; time to read some good books, watch great series or old movies, try a new recipe; time to recharge and relax!
Following our AGM, I would like to congratulate all newly elected members for the 2021-22 Rotary year – thank you for accepting (or continuing) a role in the club! I know Maddie will be well surrounded, and as Past President, I will be right there to give support to all who need it.
I would also like to congratulate Simmy’s husband, Pardeep, on being elected as 2023-24 District Governor!
I am looking forward to seeing as many of you online on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 1:00pm EDT for our Festivus/Online Social. Many surprises await! Our very own Mr. Zoom has an invite in this bulletin for a very special event on December 29th – check it out!
And we will start the upcoming year with a Rotary Q & A social on January 13, 2021 (3:30pm EDT). See you then!
Secretary's Thoughts
Hello fellow D7040 Passport Club members and friends,
Please note a new event in the Upcoming Events column to the left about an up-coming guest speaker Hakeem Subair. There is also a special invitation below from Chris Cochrane who is once again hosting the next in his series of Passport Club Education Centre features at 1:00PM EST on December 29th. Read all about it in Chris's invitation.
This will be our final Bulletin in 2020. What a memorable year it has been indeed, because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. I could be telling my grandchildren all about it, but in my case all five of them are living through it so it will be them telling their grandchildren many years from now.
It has also been a momentous year for Rotary and our own Passport Club which was well positioned to carry on our virtual meetings and to extend our reach with quite a few new members so far, and to feel the warm effects of an expanded global presence.
I want to thanks all those who have contributed to our Bulletin through 2020 under Past President Chris's leadership and also under that of President Jacinthe since July 1st. Without your contributions our Bulletin would not be what it is.
I wish everyone all the best in 2021 and please Stay Safe!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Terry
President-Elect Maddie Roy
The year is coming to a close, and what a year it has been! But before we welcome 2021 we're having one last get-together. Join us on December 15 at 1:00 PM for our second Online Social Event: Festivus. Invite your friends and family and pour yourself a drink. I have gotten a little sneak peak into what Margaret and Brian are planning and it's sure to be a fun afternoon!
Festivus for the Rest of Us
Bring a guest!
Contests: Break out your best Ugly sweaters, your best tie or
hat (seasonal, bow, whatever!)
Conversations: Small group chats & whole group laughs
Music
Food & Drink: Well those you will have to bring yourself
Good news! We have been re-classified by the Kingston/Napanee calendar group as a Rotary Group seller, This means we get $10 per calendar. We have sold 100, so that means we have just earned $1000 for the club.
The following is an excerpt from a newsletter from Down Under. It's an excellent message that will be continued next week.
Membership and Public Relations
What's the Difference?
Article by PDG C. Ross Carlyle, D9830
Several years back (2016-17) Rotary International changed the look of the Model Club.
Instead of structuring clubs along the Avenues of Service model with a Club Director for each Avenue of Service, the Model Club now structures strategically, and clubs are being asked to align with Rotary International’s strategic goals and objectives.
Under the new model a standard club looks like this:
President
Secretary (Club Administration)
Director - Membership
Director - Service Projects
Director - The Rotary Foundation
Director - Public Relations (generally the club’s Executive Secretary)
Larger and/or very active clubs may choose to enhance this model through the addition of others on club boards and/or management committees - President Elect, Past President, Vice President, Treasurer, specific Avenues of Service Directors and/or Chairs of Committees. Details regarding club models are available in the following Rotary Publications via My Rotary:
Lead Your Club - President, Lead Your District - Assistant Governor
The take-away message from this change is that Rotary International is asking clubs to focus on four priority areas:
Membership, Service Projects, The Rotary Foundation, Public Relations.
