FOUNDATION MOMENT

What is a Major Donor and Arch Klumph Society Member?

Major Donor – The Rotary Foundation recognizes individuals or couples whose combined giving reaches US$10,000, regardless of the gift designation. This recognition level can be achieved only through personal contributions. Major Donors may elect to receive a crystal recognition piece and pin(s) commemorating the gift at each new recognition level. Since Rotary’s Major Donor recognition began there have been over 30,000 Major Donors.

Arch Klumph Society – Donors whose cumulative gifts total US$250,000 or more are recognized as Arch Klumph Society members. Recognition includes an induction ceremony and your picture and biography in the Arch Klumph Society interactive gallery at the Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Members also receive invitations to society events, along with membership pins and crystals that commemorate their giving level. Since the society’s creation in 2004, there have been over 700 Arch Klumph Society members.

Are you interested in becoming a Major Donor or AKS member?

The Little Free Library is Alive and Well! Since September is Basic Education and Literary Month, I thought I would give you an update on my Little Free Library. It now has its own plaque and number, so you can actually find it online here: https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap/  If you click on the dot you’ll get a description and picture. So cool! Over the summer, I put my daughter Sarah (13) and stepdaughter Anna (15) to work as they repainted it. It is now a beautiful turquoise. Many people know I do this so they often donate books to me, which is great! I truly enjoy doing this, and I believe it is an easy and fun way of promoting literacy.

September 21 is International Day of Peace. This year’s theme is Shaping Peace Together. In the current global situation, it is more important than ever to continue building a world where people can trust one another. For more information, visit the UNESCO website here: https://www.un.org/en/observances/international-day-peace Why not post something this week that can be linked with peace? I will personally continue to take the course offered free of charge online by the Positive Peace Academy: https://positivepeace.academy/ I would love you to join me in doing this! Let’s all become agents of peace.
Looking forward to seeing you very soon – our next meeting is on Tuesday, September 29 (5:00pm EDT). See you there!
Secretary's Thoughts

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

I am sorry that we missed yesterday's "press time", yet more computer glitches intervened which I am still trying to get properly addressed.

Today I want to call attention to the special Zoom ClubRunner Training sessions on ClubRunner basics led by our very own Founding President and current Membership Chair, Ariane Carriere.

There are two sessions - The first is September 30, 2020 from 7:00PM to 8:00 PM.  The second session is the next day, October 1, 2020 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.   You will find the link in the upper lefthand corner of our Bulletin under "Upcoming Events".  This is for any member still experiencing some difficulty with ClubRunner - particularly keeping your make-ups current, but I'm sure Ariane will have lots of other little secrets about ClubRunner to share, so please feel free to take advantage of this great opportunity!

I also want to draw your attention to the item below contributed by Colin Lyle, our new member living in France.  The World Bicycle Relief organization is involved. in some exciting work in the developing world that is worth our attention.  Thanks for your contribution Colin.

And, that's it for this week. Once again, sorry for the delay in getting this week's issue to you.

Please continue to stay safe.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Terry

President-Elect Maddie Roy

The online benefit event being planned and orchestrated by our very own, Brian, is fast approaching! I have made up some posters that we can share online to promote the event. Feel free to save them, share them, and send them to your friends and family.

World Bicycle Relief

By Colin Lyle

I attended a meeting of a local club recently where the DG arrived on one of these bikes; last year he and his wife shared one to ride from near Luxembourg to the RI Convention in Hamburg - some 600 kms.  The video clip below explains all the benefits of this project operated by World Bicycle Relief  in the poorest parts of the world; the bike only costs $140, is very rugged to withstand rough roads (and also very heavy!) - it is also very simple and easy to maintain - the pedals are fixed and act as brakes, to simplify maintenance and reduce the cost.  My previous district 1700 has set itself the goal of contribution one bicycle per club - there are currently 105 clubs in the District.

The DG asked me to spread the message.  This looks like something the club could take part in and easily afford.  As the Poms say “On Yer Bike”!
