Hello to all Fellow D7040 Passport Club Rotarians,
Well, as has been noted on several occasions of late, we are rapidly closing in on the start of our fourth year as a Rotary Club, just two more weeks to go!
We’ll finish our third year with a bit of a bang – our annual “Crossover Meeting” on June 30th where we will welcome Jacinthe as our new President and say goodbye to President Chris.
I think we should all agree we have had a productive year, particularly noted by welcoming Nicke from Sweden and Guy from Malta initially as Honorary members and full-time regular members on July 1st. Both are experienced Rotarians with their own special stories to tell and we hope will just be the first of many “International” Rotarians to join our ranks. As he notes this week in our Bulletin, President Chris will continue on our Board, not just as Past President, but also Club Director of Communications and is promising us at least one special Webinar each month with great speakers. If you missed the first of this exciting series please don’t forget to click on the link provided by Chris and view Rotarian Rushton Hurley who currently resides in Southern California, as he talks to us about “Stories You’re Not Telling”. It is a truly wonderful Webinar and just the start of what Chris is promising to be a truly great and inspiring series. So get a taste of what’s to come by tuning in to Rushton’s illustrated talk as he tells us a bit about his own Rotary story in just a few short minutes.
Also in this issue below, President-Elect Jacinthe focuses on the upcoming Rotary International Convention – the first “Virtual Convention” in Rotary’s 115 Year history. Registration and participation is FREE, so be sure to register and take part in at least some of the activities and sessions which gets underway this coming Friday.
Finally, a reminder to those of you who may not as yet have responded to Treasurer David’s notices about the coming new Rotary Year and the dues that should be paid by June 30th if you plan to continue your membership and participation in our club. We hope to see everyone continue with us of course.
Have a great coming week,
Yours in Rotary,
Terry
Once again, here's an important message from Rotary International:
President-Elect’s Message -
Celebrating the End of the Rotary Year!
By President-Elect Jacinthe Paillé
There are only a few weeks left to the month of June, and with it comes the end of the 2019-20 Rotary year. Because of the worldwide situation, the International Convention in Hawaii was cancelled, but replaced with the first ever Rotary Virtual Convention. As promoter of the International Convention for the district, I would like to personally invite all of you to register for the exciting events that will take place - free of charge - online between June 20 and 26. Check it out:
To stay active during this time, participate in the Walking Challenge! Simply download the app and then start walking! Find out the details here: https://www.hekahealth.com/rotary20
If you have ever attended an international convention, you have had the opportunity to go to the House of Friendship, a huge location where many Rotarians, vendors, groups and organizations offer information, items, and more on various programs. This year, you guessed it: it will be done…online J Find out the information here: https://www.riconvention.org/en/honolulu/house-friendship
And if you are like me and are looking forward to travelling the world again soon, why not take a look at what the next International Convention will showcase! The beautiful city of Taipei, Taiwan will host Rotarians and friends in June 2021 – what an experience! You can start registering as of June 20th by clicking here: https://www.riconvention.org/en/taipei
I am hoping to “see” many of you online at all of these events!

The last few months have been a challenge for us all. However, Rotarians have stepped up to the plate and made tremendous efforts to adjust to the circumstances! There are more and more possibilities for raising funds, spreading awareness, and connecting people - all online. We had a very successful webinar recently and I know that many of us are eagerly awaiting the upcoming International Convention. Participation is now easier than ever since we don’t even need to get out of our pyjamas to make an impact! Going forward, especially for a Passport club like ours, there will be more events held online. If any of you think of or come across interesting ideas for online engagement, let’s be sure to bring them up in meetings. Let’s move into a new Rotary year with fresh new ideas!
Masks
By Ariane Carriere
(Editors note: This message from Ariane is a repeat, but important enough to run again just in case you missed it last week!)
Are any of you sewing masks? We just recently saw a Facebook post from another club and decided that it might be a way for our club to fundraise. Simmy and I have been doing a lot of sewing so we want to put this announcement out:
For a $10.00 donation to the D7040 Passport Club, you will receive a mask as a thank you for helping our Club help our community. These are not medical grade masks, have not been tested, and are not certified in anyway, but are simply homemade masks to provide an extra barrier. This project will help provide an additional level of protection and help provide the Rotary Club with funds to serve others. You may use e-transfer or PayPal for the donation. Contact ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com if interested.
If you are sewing masks, let me know and we’ll see how we can get this together.
